68Datsun510
Hey folks, I have an L19 with a DGV, freshly rebuilt in an attempt to stop the leakage out of the top. Still smell fuel and see seepage. Only when driving uphill does fuel escape. The front area of the carb shows fuel penetration through the gasket, no matter how tight. Carb always has the "residue look". Float is set correctly, pump is mechanical. Any ideas? Experiences? 1 Quote Link to comment
Doctor510
Mine has done that for 9 years, I just clean it regularly. I finally fixed it by lapping the top of the carb and the edges of the top on 800 grit sand paper. 2 Quote Link to comment
G-Duax
Probably warped due to over tightening it over the years on an old gasket. Dr.510 has the right idea. A sheet of fine aluminum oxide paper on something really flat. Then pick up a food good gasket. 3 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
When I had a gas smell it was the accell pump diaphrame was broke and squirted gas in the exhaust manifold. 1 Quote Link to comment

racerx
Btw, if the base and or the adapter plate is warped, you will have vacuum leak. Is your idle unstable? 1 Quote Link to comment

Stoffregen Motorsports
Though it may not help with the "leak" problem, there is a different float that you can use to allow more fuel into the bowl. It's from a Ford Pinto, and I believe you can get it from Pegasus Racing, or anyone else who has experience with building a racing DGV. Use that in conjunction with a larger needle and seat, or a grose jet, to maximize fuel level control. I had a Weber DGV on my first rock crawler (Jeep CJ5) and it spilled over on steep inclines, to the point that it would flood over and die. I wonder if you're having similar issues? Or is it really leaking out of the bowl? 1 Quote Link to comment

Charlie69
I prefered the Wheaties boxes for gasket making. Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Redline Weber Repair Kits Do they have any knowledge of the Datsun's? Are they selling real Webers made in Spain? Pierce manifolds has decades of Datsun experience. 1 Quote Link to comment

Pierce is top notch with top shelf pricing unfortunately. It just seems like the float stops doing its job when the nose is pointed high, bowl overflows out the vent. Ill need to get a gopro under there or something 1 Quote Link to comment
