Driver side outer door handles

I purchased my 521 and the driver door would not open with the current door handle. Upon further inspection, the outer door handle had a broken leg which hits the latch to open. I replaced it by buying a used one. The other day the used one broke too which looks like a very poor design by Datsun. Does anyone have a permanent remedy for this problem?

I would take that entire mechanism out that dp posted a pic off....

See how the release mechanism is functioning.... if it's smooth or not....

Sounds likes it's taking too much force to make it release....

It should almost be effortless to pop the door open...

Also make sure your not fighting the lock mechanism...

You have solved the problem d.p. The problem is the area you circled in red. Mine does not have that so the latch leg and door handle leg make contact which was opening the door. As Crashtd420 referred to, it was taking too much force to make it release. I will look for that piece on ebay like you stated

Clean the door lock mechanism.   It probably has never been done, and the old fish oil grease from 1970 is probably very hard by now.

The more firmly the door is adjusted tight against the weatherstrip, the more force will be required to release the door catch.
