d.p
Interesting....wonder what I actually have on the fronts then. Rears are without a doubt gas. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
They used to be white. Now they're sold as light gray. Black KYBs could be GR-2s or Excel. 2 Quote Link to comment

mainer311
They're actually silver. I just put them on mine when I bought the truck in September. 1 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Are those better, worse no different? Gas-a-just are "better." They're stiffer, and use a pressurized nitrogen to prevent foaming, etc. The GR-2 and Excel-G are oem replacement, and are the same exact thing besides their color and sticker. 1 Quote Link to comment
Dolomite
Gr2 and excel g are utter shite in my opinion. 2 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Thanks my dudes. What the part number for the fronts? Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Front: KG4605A Rear: KG5447 2 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Just checked and do have excels in the front. I assume I have gas a just in the rear because of their color, same as yours Mainer. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
I'm with dolomite. The Excell or GR2s are crap. "OE replacement" is an industry term for cheap fix. They do not anywhere meet nor exceed original quality. They are OK for what they are and price. 2 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
I have the Excel-G’s on my roadster, and they made a huge difference, but that’s only because the shocks that were on there were from ‘68. 2 Quote Link to comment
Dolomite
When I had the cut zx struts on my 510, I had the excel g, they were so shitty I gave the whole setup back to james and got uncut struts so I could run the 15 year old zx tokico illumina inserts I had in my stock housings. The g stands for garbage. 1 Quote Link to comment
sondat
Are the Dolomite front shocks being mentioned on lowered (re indexed) trucks? Are they a bolt in or custom built to required specs? Have done my homework on other thread and was leaning towards the ss300 proshock (bolt in). 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Yeah, mine is reindexed and lowered on blocks. They bolt right on, nothing special needed. Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Same here. I’m lowered about 3” or so. No problems. 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Proshock is more than double the price of a gasajust shock. Are they worth the cost? Worth it over the KYB? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
There's not much difference between shocks they all do the same thing but buying a shock that was designed for your car or truck is impossible unless from the dealer. This is like saying your Weber was made for your L16 which is rubbish. It will work on it but not designed for it. So how can KYB say it's for a 510 other than it has the correct length and mount ups. They designed in the correct compression and rebound rate???? If you have the original shock and it isn't leaking (blown seal) just soft, refill it. Use thicker oil for more resistance. 1 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Mike is right. No aftermarket shock that fits will ever have the right valving. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Add to that lighter or heavier rims or tires, stiffer springs and suspension mods and most of all personal preference. All you can do is experiment and get something that works for what you want. Shocks are like after market ignition coils... different paint colors and promises and catchy names like Accell and Flamethrower, but pretty much made in the same factory in China. A street car has barely a few inches of suspension travel because of the stiffer springs and lower ride height so the shocks are not traveling any great distance. Keep in mind you're not driving to Dakar or Baja and jumping through the air. 1 Quote Link to comment

DatEz
So KYB Gas-A-Just shocks are probably the best aftermarket replacement for shocks? I am in the market right now to replace my rear shocks since they are blown. 1 Quote Link to comment
