datzenmike
Yes and no. All were 26" except those in the 610 which were 31.5" long. Strange eh? Quote Link to comment

Definately... so I must have the 71b from a 720.... one thing I notice too was my 4spd In my 521 had the output flange bolted on while the 71b had a slip on spline end.... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yes, unbolt the driveshaft from the flange and there is a large nut holding the flange to the end of the 4 speed transmission. Remove it and the spline slides out. To use this spline on the 5 speed the hole in the end must be sealed. Use a 40mm core plug and sealer like this to keep the oil from dripping... Shorten the driveshaft and done. . Quote Link to comment
d.p
So what FS5W71B should I be looking to buy exactly? Quote Link to comment

I was lucky enough to get the flange with my 71b so I have both types... and actually it was lucky that you clued me in on this swap before.... last year I was trying to sell my 5spd, almost did twice but they wanted the longer one.... would have kicked myself in the ass knowing what I know now.... banzai510(hainz)
really to the oil seals keeps most of the oil in not the core plug 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Oil will work itself back and through the splines. All other splines are solid metal behind them. No harm doing this now rather than taking apart later 1 Quote Link to comment
