Creaturefiend
I have a 71 510 wagon and i have a confusing turn signal problem. So all of my lights work when i have my hazards on and my right side turn signals work but on my left side only my front works and my back one does not but it does work when i turn my hazards on. So far i have cleaned my connectors in the turn signal switch and in the hazard switch nothing and everything is plugged in. Ive looked over the diagram and i cant firgure out what is wrong. datzenmike
I bet the left turn indicator in the dash flashes, correct? It's in the turn signal switch. Power from the fuse box goesa through the 4 way switch (when OFF) and then to the turn flasher unit, then to the #1 wire on the turn signal switch. The turn signal switch connects front and rear (left and right) lamp sets that ground making them light up ON A LEFT HAND TURN... The #1 wire goes is connected to the #5 Green/Red stripe wire (which goes to the front signal and the dash indicator) and also to the #8 Light Green/Red stripe wire which goes to the rear signal. Creaturefiend
Yes the left indicator in the dash do flash and so does the front left turn signal but the back does not. So are you saying i need to replace my turn signal switch? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Maybe replace... or maybe the plug is loose or not making contact, maybe the contacts inside are not making contact. With the ignition on and the left signal on, test for power on the LightGreen/Red stripe wire coming out of the switch assembly. There should already be a flashing on off on the Green/Red strip that goes to the front lamp. I guess if you can't find the problem just jumper the Green/Red stripe to the LightGreen/Red stripe wire to get the rear working. This is how older models are wired. Front and rear are joined together then they go into the switch and there is only one contact to connect. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
It's the turn signal or the plug to it not making contact. For the left side turn on a wagon, there are two wires that the switch connects separately inside, to the turn flasher unit. The front signal is wire is pin #5 a Green/Red and to the rear, pin #8 a Light Green/Red. The turn switch connects these to pin #1, a wire that goes to the flasher unit. Look on the plug on the turn signal for either the pin number or the color code of the wire. Follow these inside the turn switch and likely you'll find a solder joint has come undone.
