L Series EFI Manifolds coming soon.

I have a model in the works for some EFI intake manifolds for the L16-L18-L20 

 

Its just a teaser for now, but stay tuned for images soon.

 

Feel free to discuss such things.

I see a lot of people in Japan, just section out the middle 2 cylinders of an L6 manifold, and weld them back together to make an L4 set up.

 

Then there are people like  SK, HKS, Borla (formally TWM), and Jenvey that made Weber pattern throttle bodies that bolted to any DCOE sidedraft manifold.

 

And there is that old fart here in the states that makes adaptors that mounts RB26 throttle bodies on to any DCOE manifold.

But they are not plug & play, as the end user must make up their own linkage, and weld injector bungs onto their DCOE manifold.

 

The cut L6 manifold, and that old farts stuff is beyond a normal Datsun owner's skill set,

and the DCOE pattern stuff doesn't lend it's self to forced induction very easily.

 

You come up with a good single throttle L4 EFI manifold, that takes an easy to find throttle, has injector bungs, you would have a market.

All you need is a Weber DCOE manifold setup.  There are multiple EFI options that bolt up with the DCOE pattern.  There are also TBs that bolt up in the SU/Hitachi pattern, as well as the Weber DGV.  What's going to make this new manifold special?

Control over better interior flow.

 

Single throttle body design for a buy and bolt up option.

Single throttle body is much better for a turbo build instead of the outdated blow-through, or suck-through crap I see on most L4s.

There is one particular manifold that works well for this. The others have the plenum on an angle and when the middle two are cut out the cut ends don't butt and align properly. The only other thing I didn't like is the front two runners face backwards and the air has to make more than a 90 degree bend.

small port version for the putt putt guys and a monster port behemoth for idiots who want to try to make 1000hp..... 

 

or if you make one port design leave enough meat so the runners can be hogged out to 1.6 inches or so with a thicker area that could be tapped for nitrous nozzles... 

 

since you have awesome machines you could probably pick a popular top feed injector and build a fuel rail to go with the manifold and make it super awesome.

 

 

any idea on cost for this cnc cut beauty? I think I would pass if it was 1500 bucks or something but if it was like 400-800 I think that would be fairly reasonable..

$800-$1000 is a doable range with everything you mention. Below $800.00 is pushing it,

The last car I installed EFI in was $1300 parts list including a new fuel tank, Walbro pump, fuel line, AN fittings, throttle body, computer, and necessary sensors.  $900 is a VERY expensive manifold - especially considering who buys and drives Datsuns (myself included).  For $900 you can buy DCOE TBs with fuel rails and manifolds.    There's go to be a more affordable way.  Can't you just make the tooling and cores on CNC to cast the manifolds?  Each casting would typically cost about $75 plus final machining + however you want to spread out the cost of your time and tooling.

DCOE Manifold: $400-$500

Side Draft Style ITBS: $250 for one set. X2 ($500)

EFI Fuel tank NEW: $200-$500

Assorted AN Fittings: $100

Computer: $250-$1200

 

$1300.00 for all that seems a bit of an underestimate.

 

Castings don't run $75 each unless 200-500 units are ordered. I am not going to invest in tooling for cast because its far more extensive to tool up than it is to run billets. 

 

You may not be the customer that will buy what I make. There is a lot of people that wont, but there is a lot that will, and can afford to. I appreciate your input though.

 

Do a write up on putting together an EFI kit for $900 in a thread for those that will not buy my manifold.

I am a Datsun owner and I have zero issue spending money on my car when I am realistic about cost and quality.

 

Its not even just Datsun owners that have a crowd of people that want the best quality they can get for nothing, and are plenty bold enough to vocalize it.

fair enough. this is billet badass shit not shitty cast chinese shit.. i probibly have 800 dollars into my carbs plus the 300 or so for the intake, nevermind the hours spent porting and tinkering with the carbs.

 

for the right guy its definitely worth it. 

 

the fucking shitty thing for me is Canadian pesos aren't worth much right now, so at 800usd it would be like 1200 CAD to buy it, when the current intake setup on the car now I bought when our dollar was par.. so its shitty buying parts from 'murica.

My goal is a newer CNC.

 

The faster rapid and feed moves really do reduce cost.

 

Even now I’m far less than most doing these types of parts but my margin is paper thin.
