It all started w a conversation with your brother in law...you never know. But if its me, I would definitely do a compression check and if okay, just change the oil, fluids and tune up for now. I would not put another type of engine in there like some peeps.

Exciting stuff. Removed the trim tonight and took pictures of the cleaned up Transmission. Also learned where to find my build date (seat belts) 9/1970!! Also learned how many were made for each year and VINs. Pretty cool.

This is the best thing I'll see all year , or I guess your progress will be cool to watch.

I'm glad someone like you got it, love what your doing so far. And I know where to find one if I have a 100k lying around some day.

Thing is perfect.

Not only did my resurfaced flywheel and clutch kit arrive, but my wheels came in so on my way home from work Friday I got tires mounted and picked up lug nuts. Friday night I installed the wheels and had a friend help with the transmission. After that I called it a night

Saturday morning I tackled a bunch of little stuff to be prepped for driving...I was so anxious but I took my time. I fixed a plug on the center console and carefully removed the radio, speakers, and unnecessary wires....that radio was a PITA but I'm thankful because I got it out without damaging anything:

One other thing I had to figure out was why the drivers window was jumping out of the track and not working properly....so I removed the door panel and found this.

Are you kidding me?! Take what looks like a perfectly good door and do hack job welding to try and mount the tracks and regulator?? I don't understand, anyways this will have to wait...

My friend peter came over and helped me bleed the clutch and then it was ready!!!! So amazing!!!! I drove it about 15 miles to a couple friends houses and then it wouldn't start because I fouled the plugs. Thankfully my friend Ralph had some spares so I could get it fired and make it back home, looking into it it appears I was driving with the choke wide open...tomorrow I will double check and get some more miles in. Because I had to watch my youngest (2) he got to ride with me so that was prettty cool. I must admit driving a RHD came as second nature and it felt so cool...

I am definitely not an expert....with that said I believe choke lowers the jet. Anyways I followed some advice and made sure the lever inside the car was in the forward position which lifts the jet body on the bottom of the carb. I then used my finger and made sure they were pushed up and now I'm not having issues.

what did you use (product and method) to eat through all that oxidation and not leave buffer swirl marks?

--carter

I guess it probably shouldn't have turned out that nice then lol......I didn't even remove the dirt or grease I got on it working on the engine and trans...

I used a harbor freight Chicago electric variable speed buffer (maroon one) on the lowest speed "10" with a crappy used pad and Meguiars ultra cut compound (the bottle on the right). I only went over the car once and took a total of 45 minutes. After using the buffer I wiped it off with a dirty terry cloth towel. I probably should've spent more time but after reaching for perfection on the roof and not wanting to stop even though I was beat I decided to do a quickie on the rest of the car...
