So I had the day off yesterday and had some time to put in work on my cars.  For the Z I decided to tackle the drivers window that had NEVER worked since I bought the car.  My friend Eric fixed the ghetto welded door panel and realigned where the brackets and holes were supposed to be.  In the first page or two of this thread you can see what they used to look like.  While trying to use the window in the past I noticed the regulator would make contact with the glass or bind up.

I was confident the regulator was shot so I bought a spare on eBay and installed that.  You can see the HUGE difference in the two regulators below, not only was the original bent up but the bushings were shot.  The other nice thing about being in the USA is that the only regulators I could find were passenger doors and typically those were less used 🙂  RHD for the win.

Next I went on to install my NOS door panels but ended up not putting them on.  There are a couple small things I need to get them on and I don't want to put them in and out multiple times for risk of damage.  I would like to install and be done so that will be a later date.  Happy to see my drivers door still have the plastic liner. 😮

I have no experience with the repops but do know they do NOT have the indent by the door lock mechanism.  I also was surprised to see and feel the beautifully soft cloth that contacts the window.  NOS is so nice 🙂

Took the car to cars and coffee vacaville this past saturday prior to the work and met an IG friend Neal for the first time.  Love driving this car again.  Another thing I did not know was the JDM ignition is different from US cars.  I have been working to help Lonely Driver design Datsun key blanks and sent him many pictures of my keys over the weekend.  On the JDM side there is the lock position that allows the key to come out and steering column is locked, the garage position allows the key to come out and the steering column is open, the ACC position key stays in and power clicks on, then when it turns to ON position the fuel pump kicks on.

SO EXCITING!!!!!  I received some used parts from eBay to make my window operate flawlessly so I finally decided to install the NOS door panels.  It was definitely nerve racking but I got them in with no damage.  This is the first day since I have owned the car (other then when I picked it up) that a door panel has been on the drivers side.  I can't wait to drive it!!!  Looks so GOOD! 😍

I took my time installing the parts and installed NOS lock pulls, new door handles, NOS door pull for passenger side, used window levers, and used door escutcheon's.  Almost done 🙂

Finished a couple more tasks that have been bugging me.....low hanging fruit.

- I finally completed the install of my headlight harness and and have working lights!

- I finally scrubbed down the gas tank and painted it satin black!

- I finally took my ugly breather hose situation and made a catch can!

- I noticed my tri-bar dented my hood UGGH! and looked up T3 pictures and changed the mounting so I won't ruin my car any more!

What's next:

- fixing my broken choke lever today with epoxy

- cleaning the engine bay from all the oil seep and dust from body work

- vacuuming and cleaning the interior

- cut and install a block off panel where the radio goes

In the future:

- detail and polish the rest of the car to hopefully match the rear fenders a little better (waiting as long as I can to have the paint harden and cure

- cutting new vinyl to clean up where the door scuff plates are

- replace the ugly vacuum hose

- tighten up my headlight switch

- eventually source a JDM series 1 radio (been searching forever) and modify for bluetooth

Breather hoses and catch can 🙂 Only cost me $2.99!  So as many of you know my car has factory AC so I am limited to space in the engine bay due to the compressor and condensor.  When I put my triple carbs on I routed the block breather to the front of the radiator support.  The valve cover breather was a hose that dumped on top of the carbs.  Driving long distances on the freeway pushed air into the block and got oil to come out of the valve cover breather all over the carbs lol.

So last night I took care of it with a can of Sapporo, and one black zip tie.  Success!

Gas tank overspray YUCK!  This has been on the car since I bought it and not sure why I never addressed it earlier lol.  Please note these pictures were taken at night with wet paint so I hope it isn't this shiny.  First I wire brushed the tank and then used degreaser to clean it off.  I painted it with 2-3 coats of satin black paint.  If it looks terrible I will go back with flat this weekend because I do have a can.

And last but not least LIGHTS!!!!!  So since I purchased the Marchal headlights my friend Brian recommended I buy the harness relay so I don't fry the lights.  It was supposed to be plug and play (which it was) except that I bypassed the step that required grinding where the ground mounts and installing fuses.  So basically the last 6+ months it has been fully installed just not finished which was fine as I didn't need to drive at night.  The rest of the lights worked fine just no headlights.

So with the Datsick San Jose meet coming up tonight and making all of this awesome progress the last two weeks I KNEW I needed to fix it.  Last night I removed the grounds from the valence mounts and ground to bare metal with my Dremel and reinstalled.  Then I put the two 5 amp recommended fuses in the box and flipped on the lights and they WORKED!  LOL. I am happy it was so easy.  One small note is the harness I bought is made for LHD cars but it worked perfectly for me as I flipped it around and was able to use the factory wire attached to the positive lead on the started instead of the battery since it was short.  Worked perfectly!  Can't wait to cruise at night tonight.  Stop by In N Out San Jose airport tonight between 6-730pm to see the car and say hi!

After getting the lights fixed I took the car to the San Jose Old School Imports meet last Thursday.  First time since I lowered it that I had a passenger.  My friend Noli rode down with me and other than some traffic, bottoming out twice on the freeway, and scraping the front lip getting gas it was uneventful. 🙂

The meet took place right next to the airport and the most bizarre yellow lights were in the parking lot and you couldn't even tell what color the car was.....it also highlighted all my different shades of paintwork lol.  My friend Naveed brought out his Porsche and the timing worked out so perfectly that I happened to roll up on him once I switched to 880 so we got to cruise together a bit.

Drove the Z to church Sunday and when I came home I decided to finally clean out the interior from all of the paint dust.  I vacuumed it and wiped it down.  Looking good just need to get the lower side carpet repaired and one day remove the dash so I can put in the new glove box.  I am also going to make a radio delete plate until I can source the factory one.
