five1oh
Drove the car to work on Wednesday....farthest from home I've been so far, it did ok but really needs some carb work and I need to inspect the rear half shafts. I had a hard time starting it because the rear carburetor was dumping fuel into the motor. After swapping plugs around so they could dry out I was able to get it fired and drive it home. Even with the issues it was extremely fun to drive, although parking in the work garage and paying bridge toll was a chore.... :) Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr 1 Quote Link to comment

five1oh
So I am never the best at remembering to take photos during the process but I have a couple. Yesterday my friends Eric and Ralph came over and Eric repaired the left rear wheel arch for me and they both helped me lower the car a bit. In addition Eric worked his magic on the carbs so now it is running better than ever. five1oh
Car deserves better than Bondo... Agreed. Quick fix to fit wheels, I don't have money for this car right now, when it's time it will get a full repaint. Was going to fix it properly but unfortunately when we were repairing found out it was previously repaired with lead skin (70's???) so we couldn't weld on it or use a puller unless the fender was completely cut out. Used hammers and then filler to shape. 1 Quote Link to comment
five1oh
So I ventured farther from home today with the new stance and carb adjustments......it runs so smooth and rides great. Can't wait to start driving it some more!!!!!!!! Here are some pics at work and some better shots of the fender repair. Bleach
Car deserves better than Bondo... That's right! Cut it, flare it, slam it! :D Hey, you did more work on a Fairlady Z in one week than I did in five years! 3 Quote Link to comment
racerx
That's so cool..what did the original owner say? Quote Link to comment
five1oh
That's so cool..what did the original owner say? Thanks! It's the first time I met the wife....she loved it and started to cry...she also told me she was the girlfriend back in '77 when Norman went to Europe for two months...she was told to drive it while he was away and she did and someone backed into the passenger door. She was terrified to let Norman know and her parents owned a tow truck business so she had a shop repair it before he came back. Obviously he found out later but cool story. There have been a couple minor accidents in the past but norman told me all panels are original to the car. None were damaged too much to have to replace. It was definitely a driver...306,000kms and counting! I will learn more history as time goes on and hopefully he can find some original pics in Japan and throughout the years as well as some items that were removed. Had a great time driving it today! 240zness
No rear side markers.. huh Just noticing the gaskets , series one were pretty thin I'm thinking. Noticed some replacements I have are twice as big as my badly worn originals You can stop with all the work and pictures , feel like I've seen it all. :) Quote Link to comment
five1oh
Drove the Fairlady to the Rgruppe meet in Emeryville today. So fun cruising on the freeway. My new needle and seat arrived AFTER I got home so I was still dealing with carburetor issues during the drive but at speed it was ok. I had a ton of crowds checking it out and met some cool people. by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr 1 Quote Link to comment
five1oh
So the Z is FINALLY running awesome!!!!! Turns out the flooding issue was because the overflow drain tube on the float bowl was clogged full of dirt! I guess it created vacuum causing the needle to be open and flood the carb with fuel. Once I blew pressurized air through it to get rid of the junk the car ran perfectly!!!! I was so sure of myself I even drove it on the datslocos fun run to Point Reyes on Saturday! Over 300km of trouble free driving!! My friends Eric and Peter rolled with me to meet up with the datslocos crew in Concord Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr 5 Quote Link to comment
