five1oh
So I have had a vibration since I bought the car and not sure how I didn't notice it before but the drive shaft had a huge dent in it. In addition when I took it in to get rebarreled they found there was a bunch of slop in the splines and the parts are no longer available. The shop I went to was very knowledgable and was able to find a flange that had the same bolt pattern as my transmission and rear end but utilized modern 1320 ujoints so they built me a brand new one. Another thing that I found was the stock tie rod ends contacted my new wheels. five1oh
New "high clearance" tie rods installed 😂. five1oh
After driveshaft and tie rods were on I decided to try and drive it to the ZONC show. I made it about 1 mile before smoke was billowing out my rear fenders....guess I'm too fat lol. Drove back home and raised the car 1/2 inch and then crossed my fingers and drove to CNC Berkeley first. Then decided to head to Brisbane for the ZONC show. All in all I drove 100 miles that day but still have some decent rubbing on the right front and rear during big bumps....not to mention steering was not perfect anymore because of the tie rod replacement. It was close enough though and I had an awesome time driving the car. Almost to my vision 😍 Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Once I made it back home decided to fill the tank......mistake lol. five1oh
So obviously I needed another alignment.....once I finished that I went to my friend Pavel's for more rolling and pulling (fourth time). The reason it has been so tough is due to rust. If it were metal the fenders would cooperate but alas....need to fix. I ordered some replacement metal so someday I will make nice but for now its ugly lol. five1oh
So after getting the hatch on in the morning before work I set out to try and finish the install that night to be ready to drive the car to the T3 open house on Saturday. First I adjusted the hinges so it would fit better and then I began installing the vents and other parts: Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr by five1oh2010, on Flickr by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr I ended the night with setting the glass on top of the hatch. five1oh
So Saturday morning came and there was Ralph bright and early. I crawled into the back of the car underneath the strut bar on my back with a rope in the weatherstripping. Ralph and I tried for about an hour and 3 attempts and we couldn't get it in 😞 So then I started making calls to pay a professional. I was getting struck down with every phone call and then finally someone said they would do it.......for $275! I declined and hung up defeated. Then I found a guy that said he could do it for $85.....SOLD> I made an appointment with him at 12pm in Vacaville on my way to the BBQ (it didn't end until 4 so I thought I would be ok). Turns out the installer was back near my house when I got to Vacaville so I motored on to the show with no rear glass with my 4 year old son riding shotgun. Arrived at the show literally 5 minutes after the majority of cars left. There were only 5 cars I believe. So basically the day kind of sucked driving 2 hours one way in 105 heat....made it there and back and on my way home crashed another car show so at least my son got to see some cars. He was pretty sad when we got to T3. five1oh
After reviewing a TON of pictures for emblem placement on the spoiler I opted to just go with the FairladyZ badge. I wanted to do an angled badge with the Nissan badge under it like the stock hatch but the flat part on the spoiler wasn't big enough and it just didn't look right: I also thought about putting the Nissan badge on the left but for now am going to leave it off Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Quote Link to comment

five1oh
So I have been doing some cleanup tasks on the Z in preparation for JCCS. I have had some of the little items for a while (vent, map light cover, glove box, levers, etc.). I just recently decided I would get the seats recovered and since I won a $50 gift card to Motorsport Auto at the ZONC Brisbane show last month I thought now would be a good time. Seats are done and they are beautiful....the only down side for me buying a big guy is I sit probably 3 inches higher now but cruising the freeway is WAY more comfortable now. Car rides awesome and stiff and other little bumps are smoothed out from the new seat cushions 🙂 Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Cleaned up the grease under the drivers seat and installed 2 new 1" plugs I had left over from the cactus green build: by five1oh2010, on Flickr by five1oh2010, on Flickr I still have ALL of the rare seat riser spacers from my car (took all of them off to lower seat but will be keeping them Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr New glove box.........unfortunately I won't be putting it in anytime soon as I have to move my blower and AC hook ups or take the dash out. Not willing to do that yet lol Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Put my choke lever and throttle control lever back in. Unfortunately my choke lever is broke - tried to fix with contact cement but did not hold. I am going to try and source another one or get some epoxy. Check out the size of that screw! Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Finally fixed my passenger foot rest (bolted down right side mount). Here is a good visual of my ground clearance lol: Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr New chrome vent and map light cover installed. What a pain in the ass. I have an entire new control panel but I am not ready to rip out all of my controls to do the swap yet lol. I am picking up a radio from a friend today....hopefully its free as series 1 radios on ebay are $1k plus OUCH; Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Edited August 26, 2019 by five1oh Quote Link to comment
five1oh
Seats are back and IN!!!!! You can see in the first photo I had not changed the chrome vent or map light surround yet. five1oh
Drove the Fairlady up to Eric's house so he could fix my rusty rear fenders. The hako progress is coming along nicely. Once the fenders are done and my drivers side window is fixed I will be ready for JCCS. Cruising 3 hours up to his place in 102 degree heat was actually quite awesome. The car rides amazing and did well. I even confirmed my throttle control lever (cruise control) works perfectly 🙂 Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr VIDEO of cruise control. five1oh
So as usual I am a little behind. About a week or so after I dropped off the Z Eric sent the following pics. What I thought was going to be a simple fix (cut out 3-4 inches and replace) turned out to be a ton of work. The car had a bit more rust than I thought and in order to get the wheels to fit Eric needed enough metal to be able to roll and stretch it to fit. five1oh
While I was waiting for the car to be done I got a nice package from Japan 🙂 NOS door panels!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not the repro ones. To be honest I don't mind the repro ones but the easiest way to tell the difference is there is an indent near the door lock knob on the repops. Since this is an original Fairlady only the best can be used. five1oh
So the week before JCCS Eric called and was having a ton of issues trying to make my wheels fit. He was able to get it to the point below but he basically needed to cut the inner fender, hammer and dolly, roll and pull, and then re-weld it on...........plus he still had to do the other side. He was going to try and finish the passenger side and then just cover up the drivers side before JCCS. five1oh
Instead of driving the Z I took the 510 again this year. While at the show I was super bummed because the Wild Cards team was at the Watanabe booth and 3 of there cars were rocking the Gotti wheels (1 Kenmeri, 2 hakos). It would have been amazing to be able to roll by their booth while parking the Z but it wasn't meant to be. There was an empty spot next to Migel's car which is where my car would've been 😞 . I took a few pics of his car because it is SO clean and its on air ride.....I am pretty sure my car is about the same height but not on bags. Would've been cool to get some pics together. Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr So this year some judges actually came by my car and I was able to talk to them. At the awards ceremony I received the shock of my life. My 510 was selected for BEST OF SHOW!!!!!!!! Crazy! Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr 3 Quote Link to comment
