five1oh
and the holes are set different. i can get measurements tomorrow after work. there's a car in my garage with japanese license plate brackets Correct. Rather than drill holes I bought a set of machined brackets. Have them for my Hako too. The Fairlady Z previous owner drilled new holes so that one sits flush with either plate. This is why my "1972" plate sits out about 1/2" due to the brackets. Quote Link to comment

Sorry. Carry on with the pictures Quote Link to comment

I got the car up on jack stands last night and cleaned the garage with the help of friends so I have more space to work. Draker
Be cautious when you put on the lower chrome window trim on the doors. The one that runs along the bottom edge of the window. It will tend to want to rub the rear vertical of the window frame and will scratch the paint (ask me how I know). Couple layers of painters tape on the frame rail, and you'll be good to go! 1 Quote Link to comment
five1oh
I had a very productive weekend doing something I was scared to do for fear of overspray. Turned out great! I knocked off loose material, cleaned, prepped, masked and painted my inner fenders! five1oh
I also painted some areas with body color spray paint I purchased when I got the paint. five1oh
Need some advice from everyone on my floor pans. While waiting for Eric to come down and fix the minor rust holes I decided to remove the factory applied undercoating. I am VERY surprised at the cleanliness of the metal. My plan was to have the holes welded up and then cover the inside of the floor as well as the underside of the car with POR-15 which I bought. My question is should I reapply the factory rubberized undercoating over the POR-15 on the bottom of the car or leave it as is. I am leaning towards having the undercoating but wondering what opinions are out there and why. datsunfreak
My question is should I reapply the factory rubberized undercoating over the POR-15 on the bottom of the car or leave it as is. I am leaning towards having the undercoating but wondering what opinions are out there and why. No reason not too. Quieter drive and better rust protection. The POR-15 is reputed to be super hard to chip, so I think you'll be safe if you don't, but I would. 1 Quote Link to comment
five1oh
A few more updates. I have been doing some little things while I wait for floor rust holes to be welded up and final fitment of pedal box. Once that is done I can drop off my dash, pedal box, and misc. other parts for powdercoating. While my safari grill is in 9/10 shape I didn't like how the silver bars were painted over so I dropped them off for some polishing, in addition I dropped off some other trim for repair and new chrome  Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr I also picked up my newly zinc plated hardware and started sorting B) Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Scored this RARE factory fog light switch for my grill :) Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Painted my engine block the factory Nissan blue green: Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr And cleaned up my pillar vents (new paint and sharpie) and added the SSS badges: Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr 2 Quote Link to comment

Lockleaf
Looks like you masked off the freeze plugs. If you want to polish them it's easy with an old valve stuck in a drill and some steel wool. Quote Link to comment
five1oh
Thanks for the tips guys! I saw that pen but I guess now I need to buy one. Never heard of the freeze plug tip so thank you! .....and 240zness thanks for the kind words! to me the details are what makes the car. It is funny because my vision I saw looking at that rusty shell is starting to come together before my eyes! I can't wait to be on the road. I still have a shot at finishing by 5/10. That is the goal! 2 Quote Link to comment

five1oh
Got some stuff done. Eric came down yesterday and helped me finalize the pedal box. We had to weld in a custom bracket he made and also relocate the one that is near the wiper cowl from the LH side over to the RH side. five1oh
In addition to the pedal box, Eric fixed my floor rust in the cabin behind the front seats. We still need to grind them down and drill the factory 1" drain holes. He is coming back down on Saturday to finish the trunk rust and build my battery box and then it will be ready for POR-15. Can't wait. In addition due to the work that got done yesterday I can finally take a bunch of parts in for powdercoating. five1oh
I can't thank him enough but Eric has been coming down to help me about once per week and on this trip the goal was to build the battery box and get it sunk in the trunk. five1oh
Starting to make some real progress :w00t:  Picked up a bunch of goodies from the powdercoater / plater - dash frame, pedal box, front crossmember, engine mounts, alternator bracket, valve cover, etc etc Finished installing the windows and weatherstripping on my doors and installed the latches. At this point I am done with the doors, the handles, locks, and trim will go on once the car has been cut and polished again :D . It turns out I have a couple door glass pieces that have factory blue tint and also clear.......I had Eric check my 1/4 windows and he said they were clear so I guess I am going with clear. KELMO
I am curious as to where you may have sourced the door surround weather strips. Also, when I was removing said weather strips on my 4 door I noticed some rectangular clips at the bottom of the door that help to hold it in. Did yours have these and did you reuse or replace them? Looking good so far. 1 Quote Link to comment

Looking good so far. Thanks. All of the rubber is from Datsport Australia.............years ago (like early 2000's) I sourced rubber from Too Intense Restorations in SoCal and it was excellent, then in 2009 I tried but they were out of business so I went with Datsunland SoCal......unfortunately they were cheaply made from China and the rear window cracked within 2 months of being installed. In addition the black dye came out everytime they got wet and looked ugly on my white car trying to keep it clean. I have heard nothing but GREAT things about Datsport so I went with their stuff. Much more pricey but from what I have seen so far it is excellent. Funny you ask about the bottom clips.........between the three shells I used to build this car I was able to keep 6 black tabs in tact without breaking and was able to reuse them. So awesome. It is little things like that which will make this build my best yet. I did break 4-5 upon removal but was able to salvage exactly how many i needed. I also must say it made installing the seals much easier with them even though I still laid on my back for about 15-20 min per door. Doing small sections slowly while applying pressure is your friend. While there are a couple black adhesive messes I need to clean I did MUCH MUCH better on this car. Quote Link to comment

I tried using that rubber seal adhesive on my dime. It takes FOREVER to dry. I ended up using the upholstery type cement similar to the factory glue. It worked great! Regarding Datsport, they are spendy, I bought a bunch of these also. Good quality stuff. Another decent rubber for those that won't see much light are the sunpha seals from Thailand. Sunpha is an OEM manufacturer or rubber bits. You'll notice the label and part number sticker looks exactly like Nissan part stickers. Can find these on ebay for cheap. I bought these for my 2 door.
