r0p0doe 1,264 Report post Posted January 5 Have you considered running a heat shield? I had the same fuel boiling issue on hot days in traffic, I slapped a heat shield on and it went away. Share this post Link to post

When I was 15 and into Mad Max and break dancing, I wanted to do the same thing. But my dad said he wouldn't allow me to park it in the driveway so I bought a '49 chevy PU for my first car instead. 2 Share this post Link to post

datzenmike 27,778 Report post Posted January 9 If it was a down draft you would have the intake as a shield. SUs are the same they really need a sheet metal shield. Also you could make (or buy) 1/2" phenolic spacers to separate the carbs from the hot intake to reduce heat transfer. You have lots of room for this. A fuel return line. This just need a small orifice restriction so fuel pressure will build normally on the carburetor side. A return constantly circulates cool gas from the tank past the carburetors and returns the hot unused gas and any vapor bubbles to the tank. An added benefit is the tank contents are constantly being filtered too and removing sediment and any crap as you drive. All L20Bs have this to reduce/eliminate heat soak induced vapor lock and hard restart. The restriction could be cut off an L20B set up and shoved inside the return hose and is this size... Last is a cool air supply. No not those hideous after market things with the cone on the end. I mean air ducted properly from in front of the rad. Shame to cover or obstruct the view of those trumpets but... something. 2 Share this post Link to post
The Taterhead 1,311 Report post Posted January 25 “Red” has a thread on here somewhere with his graffitied 510. Although it hasn’t been updated in forever and I don’t remember if it’s in projects or the 510 section. Share this post Link to post
five1oh 766 Report post Posted Wednesday at 06:40 PM Getting in my driveway is fun 😁 so far no scrapes knock on wood.... Forgot how much I LOVE driving with a suede steering wheel. It just feels so right. It is also MUCH easier to get in and out of the car now lol. I still have to hook up my tach.... five1oh 766 Report post Posted Wednesday at 06:50 PM Last month I took the 510 on another EPIC drive organized by Naveed. There was such an awesome mix of cars there including two of the best Z's in the Bay Area - James Nassty Z with an L28ET pushing over 500 wheel HP and Jeremy Gomez Yellow ZG themed car. I got to park my little bucket next to a Million dollar 300sl roadster........such a beautiful design although I prefer the gullwing...😁 It was a super nice day and had a great time ripping up the canyons. The next day I was super sore from clenching my body trying to hold on through the turns. Prior to the trip I replaced my rear coilovers and the car handles amazing now. As much as I love the fold down interior I am leaning towards getting some other seats to use when I want to flog the car. It handles so good but I get thrown around quite a bit. One other thing I need to fix soon is the gas tank filler mod.....the car doesn't look to good with fuel pouring out lol Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Share this post Link to post
carterb 2,811 Report post Posted Wednesday at 07:11 PM Why oh why do 510's love to spill gas on the 1/4 panel like that?! Share this post Link to post

I like my stock filler but it gets old.... So I mentioned I swapped out the rear coilovers but forgot to add pics. Unfortunately I couldn't find pics of the new ones that Red made me but here are the old.....they were SO bad! Also on my maiden voyage to the gas station I happened to pass this sweet green 510 in town. Turns out he was from Oakland and helping his brother. We exchanged info and he came with us on the Naveed drive mentioned above. Very cool car that James (the 510keeper) originally sold Billie Joe from Green Day. Turns out the owner Greg does video for Green Day and that is how he ended up with it.
