five1oh
Next up was to get the dash back in and make sure everything was working. I tested the map light first and then the heater blower. Everything worked so I installed the center section and got the cigarette lighter working, I also mounted the fog light switch but have yet to hook it up. Once the center section was done I tested the glove box light and then swapped out my broken door for a good one. I also painted my bluebird dash emblem but didn't mount it yet because I had a question, anyone one know what the SSS bluebird badge looks like? I have his one with red stripes pictured but I also have another one with chrome checkered flag center section. I still need to locate it in my stash but I think the base bluebird had the red badge and the checkered one was SSS, can anyone confirm?? After the dash was done I installed the door pulls, door latch arms, and window arms. five1oh
So today I put the wheels back on it and lowered it onto blocks of wood to get my ride height where I want it. If you remember I had some 6" front springs that I got from a friend since the 7 1/4" springs were too high for me...........well once the motor was in it was apparent I would not be able to drive the car with the 6" springs. The challenge I have is that I am running such a wide wheel that I need the spring perch to be high enough to clear the tire but low enough to not run out of adjustment threads...... Well anyways a few weeks ago I swapped springs and lowered the perches 1/2" essentially raising the car 3/4". Today I put it on the ground and was "ok" with it but wanted it slightly lower. After the set of pictures below I ended up raising the rear another 1/2" and lowering the front 1/4". Fingers crossed it is where I want it now but the next time the car will likely be on the ground is once the motor is done and everything is working. For now enjoy the pics: Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr 1 Quote Link to comment

You may want to go back near the beginning........not a "bolt on" modification.... Quick answer - 15x8 zero offset / 195/50/15 tires Quote Link to comment
five1oh
Boy do I love my chrome paint pen. :) A picture to follow up on my previous question. I am 90% sure but am looking for some clarification. The red badge was for a base model bluebird while the checkered badge was for the SSS model.....correct? KELMO
My vote is for the checkered badge on the SSS. Had a 411 SSS stored at my place for a while and If I recall correctly the badging was the checkered type. If I am wrong, someone will be sure to correct me. 1 Quote Link to comment

dukerollo
Super clean build. I love the cactus green and overall vibe of the car. This might be a silly question, but what is the point of the fold down rear seat if there is a panel behind it? Quote Link to comment

Not a stupid question at all.......The front seats also fold backwards to make a super tiny bed I will post pics once done 2 Quote Link to comment
five1oh
Just a quick update. I got some more parts back so my plan is to get the exhaust mocked up tomorrow and then schedule the motor assembly for Monday July 9th. Recently I installed the glove box badge and started painting my headlight surrounds with black paint. For the motor I now have all the gaskets I need and I also finally ordered and received the hood shocks so that mod will be coming soon. In addition I picked up more vinyl material so the rest of the interior can be finished. In addition I also got confirmation my carpet kit is on the way. Things are coming together so I should be able to start driving this car in the coming weeks. I can't wait! five1oh
HUGE step made on the 4th! One of my best friends came over in the morning to get the exhaust done. I started by putting the head back on and securing the header so that we knew where to create the exhaust from. My buddy has a pipe bender and used to be an experienced muffler man. About a month ago he copied the "wanabre" system but left the pipes long so that we could cut where needed. The center section was perfect and the tail section is super close. We may have to redo it in the future but it appears that it will work well. The only concern I have is scraping the ground but I think we should be ok. Eric donated his Magnaflow muffler so the system is basically 2.25 inch all the way back exiting through a 2.5 inch muffler. I have a feeling it will be SUPER loud but I am fine with that. To install the exhaust I purchased two V-band clamps. The only issue I noticed that I will have is if the exhaust must come off I will need to cut the center section as the V-band clamp won't fit through the hole in the crossmember. I doubt I will need to do that but it is what it is. So stoked as the plan is to put the motor back together on Monday so fingers crossed I will be on the road next week!!!!! :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: .....and yes I do plan to either add a tip or extend the outlet to keep the exhaust blackness down.......... I am already registered LOL.......would you believe they responded saying my car is "positively a work in progress" and they need to see finished photos by August???!!! LOLOLOLOLOL......what ever happened to the element of surprise. I showed them the painted shell only with the pic of the motor in it and they wanted more.....I gave them more (basically finished photos) and they STILL want more! I am like WTH they are willing to take my entry fee and obviously the photos I show are BRAND NEW everything and they are still doubtful!?!?! The process honestly is bumming me out. I have been there the past two years as a spectator and honestly I felt the quality of 510's last year was not that good......obviously there were some great cars but some of them I felt didn't belong (again my personal opinion) so needless to say I was shocked when I wasn't approved yet this year. Trust me I will give them what they are asking for but my mood is seriously bummed out at this point....... 1 Quote Link to comment

When I registered my Subaru coupe a few years ago, I sent them pictures of it still on the rotisserie (painted shell basically) and was accepted no questions asked. I spoke to Koji at the show that year and he was surprised I got the car done. Quote Link to comment

five1oh
So yesterday was a very bittersweet day (motor built and still issues (more in a later post) but interior getting there ?................got my seats installed and finished the lower lining of vinyl. Turned out awesome and I already have to remove the seats because my carpet kit arrived LOL. Oh well I will finally clean them up and paint them before putting them back in. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how the interior turned out with the "full cushion interior" from the 1800SSS! Just missing the door panels...................................................................... One part I purchased over TEN! years ago and am just now going to use is the coupe center console!!!!!!!! You can't even find these now and when you do $$$$$$$. So glad I scored it all those years ago. It has some minor damage but I will be able to make it look good again. Anyways on to the pics!
