DanielC
There is a small screw on the underside of the choke knob, and all the other knobs, also. Remove the screw, and the knob comes off the shaft connected to the cable. The cable housing is held to the dashboard with a chrome nut, that has two flats in it. A 9/16 or a 14 MM open end wrench will unscrew the nut. The entire cable can be removed then. 1 Quote Link to comment

banzai510(hainz)
I dont get the keeping the stock choke cable? buy a Generic. You already took the stock wheels with hubcaps off to put chevy wheels on. whats the difference. 2 Quote Link to comment
d.p
I just want to keep it. And I found a NOS one for $39 but says its for a J13 but I imagine it will work an L16 as well. http://www.new-datsun-parts.com/datsun-pickup-parts.html 2 Quote Link to comment

Crashtd420
On that car parts manual sight.... the cable part number is similar but not 100% the same... while the knob other parts have the same number... cable length might be wrong..... 1 Quote Link to comment

d.p
The J13 one is 32" long which should be plenty long enough. Trying to find out if its single/stranded wire before I buy it. Thanks though crash! Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Either way it may be your only option if you want an original part..... Even if you have to shorten the cable do as others said with the solder.... I actually soldered mine where I wanted the end to be and then cut through the end of the solder to keep it from unravelling... ( this was on my throttle cable.. universal and about a foot to long) Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Part number difference may also be due to the fact there is an early and late knob (engraving/icon is different). Quote Link to comment

You already took the stock wheels with hubcaps off to put chevy wheels on. whats the difference. Because it wouldn't match the other four knobs. Who wants to swap out one stock wheel and roll down the road with a single chevy wheel. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Cable is cable, use whatever, no one can see it inside the sheath, but the knob set screw tightens onto a solid shaft. The shaft just pulls straight out from the dash. Might even be triangle shape so the knob choke image doesn't rotate and turn upside down when pulled out.The shaft has the cable secured to it. Can't believe almost 3 pages on this. Quote Link to comment

Can't believe almost 3 pages on this. I was thinking the same thing. Even if the handle is removable, it might be harder than expected to find a replacement with the same shaft shape and size. And yes, three pages is absurd for something so basic. A trip out to the garage with a camera, a screwdriver and a couple wrenches could have confirmed what took three pages to discover. xxmass
The local bicycle shop was able to cut to my measured length a new cable for the hood latch. I replaced both the cable and the sheathing. Walmart probably carries replacement bicycle brake cables. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I put a 318 2 bbl on my slant six. Used a bicycle cable. This isn't the stock Hitachi carb anyway. Quote Link to comment

flatcat19
Which should all be in one thread. You keep looking new, with every post. Stop doing that. If you come up with a cool discovery, make a How-To. But every single nut and bolt does not need its own dedicated thread. 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
A perfect example of a consolidated thread is Crash's thread. A 521 in Massachusetts. All his questions and updates are in one tidy package. 1 Quote Link to comment

You should start a new thread telling people how-to not start a new thread every time they have something to work on. Oh and dp, I’m pretty sure I have that choke cable x2. 2 Quote Link to comment
