mainer311
Make the phone dock fit the ash tray hole, then you do not need to drill a hole. Too late. 1 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Rev B of my phone dock works like a charm. Now onto other things, like my H4 e-code headlight harness. 2 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
All finished. Used Molex Mini-Fit Jr. connectors for the ends, that way I can pass them through the grommet holes. I’ll most likely just run standard 60/55W H4’s. 2 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Nice work on the harness. Curious if the Molex Mini-Fit Jr. connectors will stand up to the amperage draw. Quote Link to comment
mainer311
They should. Less than 5A on high beams. 1 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Today, I designed and printed a small tach mount. It angles the tach up an additional 10 degrees above the angle of the steering column. Not really a necessary mod, but it will come in handy for setting idle speed w/o having to get the timing light out all the time. 2 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Which TAC are you using and that mount goes on the steering column? I have a TAC but no way of mounting it and it looks similar to yours. Quote Link to comment

The tach is offset to the passenger side at 45 degrees and then angled upwards another 10. It's this one. I had a Pep Boys rewards gift card, so I only paid $12 for it. I like it. I was going to put an LED bulb in it, but after I tested it on a battery, I found that the crappy incandescent bulb makes it look old at night. https://www.amazon.com/Bosch-SP0F000025-Sport-Tachometer-Black/dp/B00UM9WWBE 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Instead of jamming those nuts in the mount couldn't you have just threaded the screw through the hole and attached the nut on the other end? And can I get a mount? Pretty sure I have the same size gauge. Quote Link to comment

You could do it that way, but then you'd need a wrench ;) 8-32 screws have like 3 different nut sizes, so the hex that I designed in was one size too small for the nuts that I found laying around. No big deal. Once I sand it, dip it in acetone, and paint it, you won't even be able to tell. 1 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Got the tach in today. Haven’t done any of the wiring yet. Placement is near perfect. 5 Quote Link to comment

DanielC
There are four wires under the ashtry. One is ground. One is always hot One is hot when light are on. One is either accessory hot, or ignition hot. A 521 wire diagram, freed from Photobucket. 1 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
I’ll find the sources somewhere. There’s nothing under my ashtray. I’ll most likely pick up something near the ignition switch. I put an inline Molex connector on the back of the tach, so I can disconnect the tach w/o having to pull the whole wire harness. 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
Them wires are there, one is always hot for the cigarette lighter, that one can also be used for the memory in modern radios, one is ground, one is for the light in the radio, and one is for the radio itself when the key is on, if your not using them they may be taped/connected to the back of the face of the dash out of site. 1 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
It’s possible that my aftermarket stereo is already wired to them. I don’t recall. 1 Quote Link to comment

mainer311
My Hella H4 e-codes finally showed up. Direct fit into the buckets/rings. The truck came with two original Koito lights. Is there any demand for them? 2 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
You could probably fund your projects with that harness you made and some of those cool 521 3D parts. I know I'd like to know more about your harness. 1 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
E-codes are in and I love them. Dramatic improvement in light. No real driving yet (and there won’t be until spring). Looks a little bit different, since the glass is actually flat. Low beam High beam 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
Only the 2 outside lights are supposed to be on when on low beam. Quote Link to comment
mainer311
I didn’t make the harness to work that way. Why run 4 H4’s and only have two on at low beam? Quote Link to comment

It's likely the law, you could possibly get a ticket because it will look like your brights are on, check your laws. If it was legal and safer they would have made them that way from the factory.
