Mike8199
How would i know if the vacuum advance is going out? Just rebuilt the carb, but the engine still having some issues. For instance when idling it sits at 800 where it should be, but randomly drops to the 650s and stays there till i blip the throttle. Then it randomly goes back to 650 rpm. Any ideas? kelowg
Binding linkage,or worn. Sticking throttle plate or vacuum leak. Disconnect vac adv, plug line going to it. See if issue still here. Only test is appling vac to adv. Ck its movement and if it can hold a vacuum. 1 Quote Link to comment
racerx
you can also set dist. at total advance and will not need vacuum advance, maybe 36 total degrees. 1 Quote Link to comment

Vacuum advance is supplied from a port on the side of the carb. There is none at idle with the throttle closed. Vacuum is load dependent with very little at full throttle acceleration, more at part throttle and most when decelerating. Liberally spray the linkages on the back of the carb with WD-40.
