Hi Guys ,

 

My name is Kurt and I hail from South Africa , ..

 

Being new to the forum,

 

I would love to share my latest project with you guys ,

 

although this is not my first restoration ... This will be the most important one , As this is a car that I have decided to build on my own.. From metal repairs , Paint , Suspension ...Blah... It will be all done by myself . 

 

 

Here's the story :

 

 

Hi guys ,

This will be my official blog/journey to restoring my Datsun 280ZX .

This will not be a "Build Thread" , But rather a journey to achieving one of my goals on my bucket list , Before life happens ...

So with that being said here goes!


I have attained a beautiful Datsun 280zx

So ... Basically , My plan is to go with a full Restomod setup with the car,Once i have the car painted , The below will commence

Body & Interior wise:
-Stock body + Some other mods - In progress
-Old school 80s styling
-All the Chromework to be redone in a Black Chrome.
-Interior will be redone .

Road holding & drivetrain:
-Coilover's
-Uprated brakes with braided hosing and electric brake booster.
-Redo diff and shafts
-Wider wheels - In Progress
-Auto - Manual conversion

Motor:
-High Comp L28
-ITBS

 

 

 

 

 

So Far this progress has been for the past three months :

 

Car has been completely stripped out ...

 

All the panels have been stripped down to bare metal .as well as all rust spots treated .

Hi Kurt, welcome to Ratsun. It's good to see you have a plan for your zx. Are you inclined to lower it a couple of inches? This will lower the center of gravity and improve handling. If lowering, some firmer springs and upgraded dampers, perhaps a larger sway bar. One thing affects all the others.

I am in the process of lowering the car...as the car has been stripped out bare ...

 

I am building a custom set of coilovers for her . Most likely will be butchering a set of s13 ones to fit...

 

New sway bars are on the list...and will be built soon as well as a half cage.

 

Note that she will not be a 4 seater anymore..

 

I have got a set of Porsche 911 targa seats that are going to be done in alcantara, along with the dash and other trimmings...it will be a mix of black leather and alcantara.

 

Color has been decided on - White...it does wonders for the 2+2 body styling...

 

Sincing this has been 3 months of progress.

How did you go about fitting the BMW wheels? Wheel adapters or redrill the hubs or rims?

I redrilled the hubs , Also building custom adapters as the rear hubs are still a concern for me ..

 

I also upgraded the front disks to Nissan Skyline new era ones as the stock zx ones cannot be redrilled.

So Guys..

 

I have been busy for the last few months..

 

Been getting nailed with work ..

 

Well  what have I done thus far ..

 

-Got the car down to metal .

-All repairs 

-And now finally got the car in paint  .

-Fairlady 240z Fender mirrors sourced  

 

This has been first/ Base coat

 

New wheels have been sourced and started with , The first set of steelies are 16" x 12J , And the second set are stern 16" 3 Piece Split wheels  . 

 

I will start getting the car together in the week to come

 

My baby will ride soon  .

She's running again and all is well .

-14j Wheels done

-All interior has been redone in black

-Equal length header has been done

Thank you, The beauty rings have been trashed for a full wheel color change.

I hated the 2+2 but unfortunately in South Africa there are a few 2 seaters which are literally gold to find. So i had to budge and keep the 2+2.
