slodat
I have tried doing very simple searches and none of them return results. For example "slodat's 510" returns nothing. Thomas, any idea why it doesn't work? I know it used to. Quote Link to comment
Jester
I have tried to search for headlight stuff with the same results. I know there USE to be a shit load of info on this subject. Quote Link to comment
Cuts metal like mad
LOL, the info is there... its just not easily accesible with the search feature. Quote Link to comment
slodat
What I'm saying is there is a clear problem with the database or the forum software or?? something. Because searches that used to return results now return nothing. My guess is a forum software upgrade happened.. Quote Link to comment

Thomas, any idea why it doesn't work? I know it used to. I thought it was just me... It's a pretty picky search, reminds me of programming with Fortran 90..... Found it Steve, leave it up the Wolf Man search engine. Slow but very good at finding pics :D Quote Link to comment
sanitys
ive noticed not many hits either, however if i find a thread that ill need later ill post in the tread, that why i can just do a search on my username and find the thread i need that way. That or i bookmark them. Quote Link to comment
fisch
Me too. In fact I did a search yesterday for a specific word and didn't get the thread I wanted to come up, so I dug it up on my own and indeed, it was still there. And the word I had searched for unsuccessfully was in the title, but for some reason didn't come up. Quote Link to comment

]2eDeYe
I quickly searched '510' with slodat in the username. Came up with this... http://forum.ratsun.net/search.php?searchid=219301 Your project thread isn't in there though. Then I tried 'project' with slodat in the user name. http://forum.ratsun.net/search.php?searchid=219303 It works but it does apear to be extremely picky.... Not sure what the deal is...but 510 is in the title of your project thread so it should come up in either search. If you have 'slodat's' in your search it could be confusing it..I dunno... Paging Thomas to General Discussion. Thomas to General Discussion, please. :D Quote Link to comment
RacnJsn95
Usually if I want to find something I just have to type in the author and sift through 10+ pages of their crap until I find what I'm looking for... Quote Link to comment
ezcruiser
Guess we're gonna have to start adding tags to everything and searching/browsing by tags. Quote Link to comment
slodat
forums, ANY database for that matter, are completely useless without the ability to search(query). Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Yep, I'm sure it had something to do with the last round of updates as it worked before then. Quote Link to comment
Steroid
What I am noticing is it is only bringing up information that is about a month old. Anything older will not be searched. I tried like crazy to find the thread about Ron's tailgate. I finally just clic'd on His user name and then spent about 20" going page by page of everything He has ever posted or replied to until I found it. Also, sometimes the search says "Less than 3 words, search cannot be done" or something like that. Very frustrating. Quote Link to comment

Very frustrating, considering that the majority of the Datsun model names are 3 numbers like 320,520,521,620,510,610,710,810, etc etc... Just a little tough. Quote Link to comment
zerow
What I am noticing is it is only bringing up information that is about a month old. Anything older will not be searched... Exactly. And we crucify those who don't use the search feature... Quote Link to comment
Cuts metal like mad
if the add quotes like this "510" it tricks the search into thinking its more than 3 letters. :D Quote Link to comment

Mike, you have to make sure you have Any Date selected in the search settings. The default setting is 2 weeks or something like that. Quote Link to comment
Thomas
Yeah, I'm not entirely sure what the deal is. I think it does have something to do with the update. I kind of wish we could just replace the vBulletin search with a google search. Anyway, I played around with it a little bit. Let me know if it works any better -- although I'm not really sure what to do about it at the moment if it doesn't. Quote Link to comment
ezcruiser
Well I've noticed instantly that I can search with just THREE consecutive Alphanumeric characters and when I search "headlights" I get 251 results instead of three. If I wanted more specific(less) results I'd simply hit up the Advanced Search and fill in the criteria! Good job man! The new settings are working great for me! :D:D:D:D:D Quote Link to comment
slodat
Thanks Thomas, I now get the desired results when searching for "slodat's 510". Quote Link to comment
Jester
Oh hell ya. Lots of headlight stuff now. OK, let the flaming continue.:D Quote Link to comment
