Car seats in a 510 redux

Recommended Posts

Been searching for ideas on securing the rear teather strap when installing a front facing car seat in a 510. My search revealed a promising thread that got locked due to a nuclear bitch fit and a war to see whom had the smallest dick. So, anyone who's done it or has decent ideas, shoot. Also, not looking for ideas on the latch system as it's only designed to support a combined weight of 70lbs between child and seat. Please, let's keep this constructive as it has child safety implications, and not turn it into a shit show.

Just to be sure I'm understanding, you are referring to the system where you install a car seat to little U shaped hooks built in to the vehicle?

Subaru uses these bars that bolt in behind the rear seat back that have the hoops built in. The black bars going from top to bottom in this pic are what I'm talking about. Weld in big "roll cage" plates to spread the load, add trapped nuts and use these?

No. The tether strap is the one that goes from the top of the car seat and connects it to the car to keep the seat from flipping forward in an accident. I put newer seat belts in to secure the base, just looking for ideas for the rear tether. That pic is a Latch system, only certified for small children. Mine is too big to use it safely.

Anyway, I think I'm going to bolt a seatbelt anchor in the middle position for the tether and use the outer holes for the seatbelt to create a middle position belt with an anchor in factory holes made to take impact...if that makes any sense. I'll report back with my findings for anyone that may actually want to take their rug rats.

I figured after the whole fuck Rick/truck that shall not be mentioned debacle I'd give him the benefit of the doubt...once.

Anyway, I ended up using the outside bolt for the passenger seatbelt for one end, and the inside drivers side bolt for the other, and a belt anchor for the tether in the middle giving an offset middle seating position. Zero side to side play, and front to back is within manufacturers tolerance. The new plan is to weld plates to the parcel shelf and run a belt anchor so there will be no play at all. Only reason I don't do it now is a club fun run Saturday and no spare time between.
