That would be a task for me...

I have to do it by myself with a jerry rigged crane, I'm afraid if I put it on I wont take it back off.....

Everyone that has done the coilovers on the datsun trucks,  at least that I have asked about, all used the 250 springs so I'm confident with the bed weight they will be ok.....

I was able to make the ride a little better around town by loosening the dampening/rebound....

My bigger concern is I'm close to the coilovers extended high, not in the recommended sweat spot for the ride height.....

And as I said springs are ordered, so I'll swap them on and see... worse case I waste $20 in shipping....

I remove & reinstall my cab and bed on my 520 by myself with my engine hoist.  This is one reason I will not shave my bed hooks.

Look at that cute little guy!  These trucks are so small compared to what is on the road nowadays.  Crazy how big things continue to get.

I saw one of those Kei trucks yesterday. I shoulda snapped a pic. It looked just like this: If You're Looking for a Small 4x4 Truck, Have You Considered a Kei Truck?

I swear I got video taped on the highway driving home from work today.... not surprised... it does stand out even more now....

A couple pictures to show why the bed isn't going back on right away...

Closer look, yes those are wads of bondo....

The whole floor is like that, I'm thinking about possibly a wood floor on top.... all just ideas right now.....

I have seen a process where they burn the wood, stain it, then clear it, gives a unique look....

That is twenty minutes of hammering 10 minutes of welding and grinding, so what is the problem!!!  LOL

Sand blast the bottom inside and out the bed, stay away from the sides of the bed unless if shot using wet (water) sand blasting..  Dry sand blasting warps the side panels, ask Gene Knight.

the trick is to keep the panels cool, don't hit them straight on. Sandblasted a set of NOS 66 Nova 1/4 panels by standing back from the 1/4's about 20 feet and hit the panels at a angle. Don't stay in one area for to long, keep it moving so heat doesn't buildup. You can come back if a spot is missed.  This was done with a professional blaster and not a home DIY blaster. Used a fine sand, not sure which one, been over 15 yrs ago. Might take a little longer but the results are great.

The floors on Datsun beds are thicker then the side panels. Sand the outside and inside 1/4's like Charlie mentioned.

I have dealt with sandblasting before.... I had a bad experience trying to rent equipment before...

I'll probably be going the dustless blasting route and save myself the headache since I plan to strip it 100%....

I've had a couple of those. They were actually Diahatsu Hijet. Both had dump beds and 7.17:1 gears. The transfer cases were unmachined for the 4wd parts. Cool trucks, but were useless to me.

This morning was interesting, I decided to grab some gas on my way to work since I only had a half tank.... hmm...  still only half tank....

So I pulled the sender and sure enough I have a full tank.. easy fix just moved it a little, I was either catching on the pick up tube or side wall on the tank... now it reads full...

The other wierd thing is I'm having an issue with my altenator starting to charge , one quick rev and everthing works fine... the odd thing is once it does its actually working better than It was last year....

Same altenator....

One thing I was wondering, is it possible that changing to the led bulbs in the dashboard ign light causing my issue?

You mean the light is on until you blip the throttle? I have had that problem before.

There is a related thread on ahexp about problems with Speedhut gauges, and they discuss the charge light. Someone figured out that a strategically placed resistor (or even a light bulb) fixes this problem. https://www.ahexp.com/forum/the-sprite-forum.6/speedhut-be-gauge-artwork.238342/page-3

I have the same problem with my KA alts. as Stoffregen mentioned I think its due to the lack of charge light in my case. My guess is the LEDs dont draw enough, so its not sensing the draw and not starting the charge.

Ive been living with it for now... But it does require a blip to ~3k to get them charging. I just need to remember to do that a block or so away.... so its not pissing my wife off in the driveway hahaah

Well I tried a diode on the lamp wire down at the alternator and that did nothing.... I was going to try a resistor but I think it would need to be on the power side of the bulb not the ground source..... I really didn't have the time to figure it out....

Anyhow easy solution,  pulled the led bulb behind the ign light and put a normal bulb in.... problem solved....

Also fixed another issue....

Since I topped off the tank I was spilling gas out my vent tube....

The vent tube was very short with a breathing element at the end....

I kept the same breather but ran a long hose to the back and then up to the breather.....

Should be good now....

If it turns out to not be the speed hut gauge then add an LED resistor in the wire to draw more amps to excite the alternator.  This is why I decide to leave all my trouble and indicator bulbs in my dash stock.

Springs aren't that expensive. I'd go to maybe 200 or even 175 and see what happens.

Surprisingly I think 150lbs would have been the sweat spot....

The 175s put me 1/2" over where I was hoping to be so I'm happy... still needs a test ride....

I was able to take a drive today and the new springs felt so much better around town....

One thing I noticed is the rear axle is leak free and my transmission is no longer leaking at the flange.. I haven't seen a drop of anything lately.... and I did top off the fluid level which was low due to leaking....

One thing I had to deal with is adding a pair of mud flaps temporarily while the bed is off..

Came up with a simple bracket bolted to one of the bed mount locations....

The are currently painted black and drying , this was it before and bolted in place....

We had snow in May last year. I think this is probably the new normal. I think the first cars and coffee is this Sunday as well.

Kinda funny.  My friends and I were talking last night.  One lives in boston and one lives in orlando.  Orlando friend and I were commenting on how its baby powder time already.  He texted this morning about the snow.  I thought about this thread first.  lol
