Recommended Posts

Hello all,

i have a datsun 720p king cab and it won't start. We have just replaced the battery and starter and it still won't kick over. We tried pull starting it and it would fire but nothing else.

Can someone please help as this is my first car

Need more info.

Was this running and just suddenly stopped starting? Or have you replaced the head gasket or plug wires or something else mechanical. When things happen always think back to the last thing you did on it.

It started on Sunday then just didn't start on Thursday. It was just sitting on the driveway

Do you know how to test for power in a wire?

Remove the little wire from your starter, the starter signal wire. Have someone turn the key and test that wire for 12v when the key is turned.

If you have 12v on it, then you have a problem with your main power supply.

If you don't have 12v on it, then you have a problem in your ignition circuit. Work backward from there until you find power.

Depends on what the term "won't kick over" means. BTW and very confusing term that means different things to different people.

Does it mean the starter isn't turning the engine to start it?

Does it mean the engine doesn't start when turning over with the starter?

He says won't start. I would assume it turns with the starter or he would say my starter doesn't work. He also says pulling it makes it fire but not run. Pulling eliminates the starter so it should start up but doesn't.

You need spark and fuel for the engine to start and run.

Pull a plug wire from intake and exhaust sides and hold near ground and turn engine over with starter...... got spark???

Look at front of carburetor wish you profile was filled out with the year of your 720, now I have to ask I'll assume it carb and not EFI. look at front of carb at the round sight glass that shows the fuel level..... got fuel???

Replaced maybe, but there is no upgrade for it. Well unless you are in Australia and perhaps have a points distributor. Complete filling out your profile location and year truck. Don't want your address, just within a feww hundred miles.
