fmdooom240sx
So I went ahead and bought the brake set up for my 510. I have the 15/16ths master, calipers and rotors. I'm missing the booster to complete it. My concern is that I'll be running a KA24ET with a top mounted turbo, and I'm concerned that the master is going to be pushed out too far and end up right next to the turbo. Does anybody know of any other alternative master cylinders that'll work well with the s130 front brake set up? Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
You don't need the booster. It would be nice though. Booster from a 620 or a B210 are small in size and work well. And, any master cylinder you put there is still going to be right there. Build a heatshield to block some of the heat coming off the exhaust/turbo. 1 Quote Link to comment
fmdooom240sx
Got it! Thanks a lot Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Larger calipers need larger masters to move larger amounts of fluid, but more effort is needed. Pedal is very firm. Larger masters are easier to use with a brake booster. Boosters increases hydraulic brake line pressure by about 50%. Good braking with 'softer' feeling pedal. Booster is doing 1/3 of the work. A smaller master will move a large amount of fluid, but will have to travel farther to do it. It will still work, but the pedal will seem soft, mushy and drop closer to the floor. Some feel that the longer pedal travel makes modulating brake lock up much easier. A booster is usually not needed as the pedal effort is already soft(er). The zx and Maxima15/16" master has a large diameter booster that won't fit a 510 anyway. A 510/B210/620 booster is smaller diameter so it won't interfere with the steering column and the clutch master, but, it does project the master farther forward. If you run a smaller master to reduce effort without using a master, try a 13/16" or 7/8". A 13/16" will be 'mushier' than the 7/8". A 3/4" will be mushier than a 13/16". Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Also...will you have rear discs too? That should determine which master you should be using. Quote Link to comment
fmdooom240sx
Also...will you have rear discs too? That should determine which master you should be using. No im still using the rear drums. I do want to upgrade to s13 rear discs though. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
78-79 620s used a 7/8" master proportioned for disc/drum. The 79-80 Z used a 7/8" for disc/disc application. 1 Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
I went from 3/4" to 7/8" and thought it was too strong. I always wanted a 13/16th". That was ZX brakes and stock 510 wagon rear brakes. Then again, I had no issue locking the front wheels with the 3/4" MC. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
My '74 710's master was pooched. I went through all my spare parts and ran a 7/8s. (a;; that was left that worked) The pedal is extremely firm, and it's an automatic so you have to hold it at stops. Quote Link to comment
