My 1967 RL411 Station Wagon - Canby or Bust!

With the bracket built I can start reassembly of that side. The new gasket is twice as thick as the original which is nice.

I was able to get all the nuts started on the studs. Makes it easier with new hardware and no carbs or linkage in the way. Still need to do final torque and install the support bracket.

may clean up the inner fender a bit before installing the carbs and air cleaner, but I really want to drive it, so that may not happen til later.

Just caught up on your 411... Your making great progress.

Just a tip on some paint I've found that works great on brackets and small items... VHT Caliper paint. It's remarkably tough. I even use it on nuts and bolts and it doesn't chip off when you put a wrench on it.  I sprayed some hand tools and the paint has held well up to being banged and dropped.

^ Good tech, thanks :D

.....to use captured or not?

That is the question.

I'd like to find another set of hubs to get turned down and see if I can just use spacers on the brackets as you suggested. Still need to save a couple bucks so I can order a set from you.

Still working on this as parts trickle in. This build should be sponsored by ebay.

This is a big hole for such a little guy.

I cleaned up the outside of the line and put some heat shrink tubing on to help protect it a bit and to make the diameter a better fit for this grommet.

IMG_8718_zpsvr0zb80o.jpg

I have a big bag full of these grommets if anyone would like one they are free.99. 3/4"od x 5/16 id.

Anyways... paid way to much for this too.

I still need to pick up an outlet fitting and run the line to the pump.

Cleaned up these guys and sprayed some caliper paint on to stop them from rusting any more. Thanks Ron1200 for the tip.

And a big thanks to Mike, he sent me one of his PL411 bracket kits to see what it will take to fit it on an RL411.

I picked up 93 Infiniti G20 rotors and calipers in preparation.

IMG_8862_zpsljet5smc.jpg

I'll be tearing the front end down next. Thankfully it looks like I can get brand new timken wheel bearings for reassembly. At least that's what rockauto said

Ok that makes sense. First let's see what the difference is in the hub offsets. I PM'd this already but will put it here for reference.

From the back of the hub to the WMS is 2.647. Will measure again later today for verification. Measure twice and all that.  :)

Some more progress. I need to clean up the old bearings and install the hubs with the new rotors to measure the offset. This will determine if and/or what size bearing spacer will be needed.

Freshly machined hub

New longer studs and rotor fitment.

Had to clearance the brackets to clear the steering stop. The RL has a different configuration than the PL.

Marks to get me started.

Ground to clear

Took a little more off just to be sure, here's where I ended up.

Both final ground, just before some paint.

Not too bad really, considering the scarcity of the stock stuff.

...and installed.

clearances

I used a .125 spacer to get the caliper about as centered as I could ask for. both pads have a bit of gap. WIth the PL kit Mike supplies a new bearing spacer for the spindle. The RL just requires that .125 spacer to use the same bracket.

IMG_9091_zpsb0pumcjr.jpg

Looks beefy. :)

Mike has been super helpful and we have been working through the differences between the RL and PL knuckles. It looks like he will be able to offer a brake kit that will work for either with slightly different parts. :)

I have a new 620 master cylinder on the way. 3/4 bore which is the same as the 93 Infiniti G20. Should work well.

I've been shelling it out to ebay myself lately getting little things for the NL and I bought a couple fuel filter elements as well. Do you recall what part number was on the package you got?

Mine didn't come with the cork gasket. I can make one easy but it would be easier in the future just to buy a filter that come with the gasket.

The part # I got is 16404-68225. Genuine Nissan

This is where I purchased the new filter. A lot of the roadster stuff crosses over to the RL411 thankfully.

Partnumber: 2184
Datsun Roadster 65 - 68 & Fairlady 1500 Fuel Filter, O-ring and Gasket

I don't remember if it had a nissan part number on the packaging and I tossed it, sorry.
