MarkB. Posted April 20, 2016 Report Share Posted April 20, 2016 Several years ago, (at least three or four) I bought a rear disk conversion kit from DatsunParts, L.L.C.. Last week, I finally got around to installing it with the help a friend of mine with more automotive experience than I and access to a lift. The parts were well-made and included Wilwood lines and a new master cylinder. It went in relatively easily with no issues save one: the stock e-brake cables are too short by about four inches and the sheaths need to be about eight inches longer to match up with the mounting points on the brackets. I sent an email to Al at now California Datsun (formerly DatsunParts) with this question and looking for a pump eccentric, but I never heard back. Has anyone installed one of these kits and had a similar problem? Any suggested fixes? Does a wagon or truck have longer cables that I could track down and substitute? If it helps, my 510 has the original e-brake and cable. Any help would be appreciated. 1 Quote Link to comment

MikeRL411 Posted April 20, 2016 Report Share Posted April 20, 2016 The ultimate and probably more expensive than you were thinking of alternative is to go to a very well experiencienciieved bicycle shop and have them fabricate a new cable! On the other hand, given the recent resurgence in bike adoration, this just might be the most cost effective route to go! Quote Link to comment

datzenmike Posted April 20, 2016 Report Share Posted April 20, 2016 Could you not keep the stock cables and extend the ends to meet the new mounting points? The 810/Maxima sedans use a very similar e brake set up and as the cars are larger the cables may be too. Quote Link to comment
MarkB. Posted May 14, 2016 Author Report Share Posted May 14, 2016 Well here's what we did: I shopped on-line for longer cables and sheaths but it was looking expensive. We put the car up on a lift and started playing with the existing cables. What we finally ended up doing was cutting the brackets for the end of the sheaths off the lower suspension and re-routing the cables on the outside of the springs and then back to the center position.. We welded the cut off brackets to the body under the rear seat such that the sheaths were now held in place under a slight load. It all works perfectly, the only slight problem is that the cable touches the exhaust pipe as it goes by; no big deal. No modification to the cable or sheaths required. I can now pass my Texas safety inspection and will be back on the road next week. Quote Link to comment
