High_Ranking_Noob
So, the water pump on my 79 510 2 door with the L20b is leaking. Local auto parts store doesn't have it. they do have one for an 83 200sx with the 2.2. The pics look alike, but I figured i would ask the experts (you guys). If I am not mistaken, the 2.2 is just a stroked L20B right? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yes it will fit but the clutch fan probably wont take the '79 fan blades. Left is the L20B pump/clutch fan, right is the Z series. Below are the plastic fans. Quote Link to comment
High_Ranking_Noob
ok so buy it, and then ask the local guy with a bunch of z parts for a fan? sounds like an easy fix. Certain Zs I should be after or will all z cars fans of that era work? Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
I'd just buy a pump from rockauto and wait. This way you know exactly what you're getting. 2 Quote Link to comment
High_Ranking_Noob
it is my daily driver. I can get the 200sx pump by monday, and a local guy has a bunch of Z cars he parts out. I will call him tomorrow to see if he has the fan. If not I guess I will see how good my redneck engineering is until I can get a new one. Quote Link to comment
shacks510
I got an "Import Direct" from O'Reilly (part number CP9009) with the cast iron impeller. Just a word of warming though, the impeller will contact the inner circle cast part of the timing cover. You'll have to file each impeller a tad. Not a big deal, just something to note before installing it and wasting a gasket. There is also a weep hole on the top of the case, as well as the bottom one. Not sure why it's like that, but it is. bilzbobaggins
How bad is it leaking? If it's not that bad, I would rock auto it and also add other stuff you need in the shipment. I've never ordered just one thing. It's a crapshoot ordering one from the parts chains. My oreily import direct has a stamped impeller as opposed to the cast one. Food for thought and your call. Good luck Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
NAPS-Z and Z-car aren't the same. A Z-car fan won't fit the NAPS-Z water pump. It's possible but improbable that the NAPS-Z water pump will be the same as the L-series one. The '79 510 used 2 different size fan clutches depending on whether the car had A/C or not, with the bigger clutch on the A/C cars. But, I tried using a Z24 water pump (truck one) in an A10 and the fan wasn't the same, so I tried using the truck fan and it wouldn't clear the radiator. So mixing and matching isn't a good idea unless you have a large quantity of parts to try. Even with all my parts, I never found a fan that would fit a Z24 truck pump and clear the A10's radiator. 1 Quote Link to comment

shacks510
Oh, and don't get the Beck Arnley one from rockauto. I ordered one and it was a stamped impeller. 1 Quote Link to comment
dscottdatsun
Is there a difference between the Canadian and US model as far as the water pump is concerned? Quote Link to comment
