720driver97
Last night i Drove my truck around my yard for the first time since I got the engine put in and when I stoped to open the shop door I looked back at the truck and the exhaust manifold was glowing so I shut the truck off and got my temp gun out it maxed out at 2500°F it looked almost translucent, what would cause this? The rest of the engine was at 200°F Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
Too lean....very very very lean, check the plugs, I'll bet they are white as snow... Get the timing and carb adjusted. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
Or one or more exhaust valves is not seating properly allowing very hot combustion gasses to leak into the manifold. Valve seat? Not quite perfect cam timing? 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Check ignition timing. Could be retarded. An old race car trick to be able to bend the headers to fit, retard the timing and run it until glowing red and then bend them to fit. 3 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Check the timing (above) first as it's easier. Timing chain was put on wrong. Valve events (opening and closing) is happening too soon for the position of the crankshaft. Quote Link to comment
720driver97
All valves were reseated but I haven't adjusted the tappets yet when the engines hot but I set them to .010 when it was cold, also the truck didn't have much power when I was driving it even though I could hit high RPM's, I'm up at school now I'll check the ignition timing when I'm back but it sounds like it's were it should be Quote Link to comment
