Oh noob!  Lol.  The footrest on the side Mike.  I'm a strapping 5'8" so I guess I'm not that short after all, I just rested my foot in the footwell.  Liked not having a dead pedal.  As for a taller one, just go to the wrecking yard and yank any Subaru, Datsun, Nissan, etc dead pedal and install in 510.  Will need to mount to floor via welding or screws.  If you need one like right now, cut an angled piece of 2x4 and drill it, then mount it to the pan with sheet metal screws.  Easy, done, bam!

Mike, how old are you? How do you get 54,xxx posts, moderate a car forum, and not know what a dead pedal is?

Sorry, my napoleon complex is kickin in :) Im 5'4

Yes, a place to "rest" your foot next to the clutch pedal.

More to be another point of contact/brace while maneuvering, than a place to rest though.

I totally went to push on it in a corner, thinking i was in my audi.

Had a tiny oh sh!t moment when there was nothing there (i just finished the car).

Its just a nice feature to have, and figured someone would have already done it.

Guess it up to me :)

edit:

i just spent a year removing the p/o sheet metal screw extravaganza's. There will be no more of those shenanigans going on.

Will weld nuts to the pan/mounting areas.

Well I guess in my mid 30's im still a youngster!

I think im going to try a corvette one. Seems to have plenty of meat to cut and contour. (edit: and cheap as sh!t, just ebay'd one for 12 bucks!)

other options i condidered were:

FJ Cruiser

Toyota Tacoma

^ Both of these options would be mounted up off the floor board, say, 2-4"

I think the corvette one will look nicer starting at the bottom of the floor pan and mirroring the stock floor mounted gas pedal.

I so want to tear you a new one!

Small mans syndrome aside, which you clearly have you fuckwit, down here where we know fuck all about cars, its simply called a footrest.

Get some Ratsun cred before you bag DM. Thats the domain of grumpy fucks like me!

Fwiw, I have always called them dead pedals too. Maybe it's a generational thing, I too am in my 30s :). I like the one in my 240sx quite a bit. Hadn't thought about the lack in my 510, but haven't driven it yet, so....

I want to see the result.

Hmmm, you have Ratsun cred, so, never, ever heard this term in 32 yrs of car ownership.

Anyhoo, WTF would I know?

How the fuck does anyone that considers themselves car guys not know what a dead pedal is? Im going to get flamed for the following, no fucks given, some members are so fucking annoying with the whole "I know more because Ive got a high post count" thing. While Im at it, I'll add the "love the patina" group...rust is fucking ugly and can get serious fast if not taken care of. Oxidized paint just looks ghetto. It's juvenile to bag on someone for using different, but generally accepted, jargon. Who cares about what sets us apart, this place is supposedly about what brings us together...fuckin Datsun.

Lol, and whoa!

Im a car guy. I build cars almost for a living. Many many many people drive/race/track/daily cars we build, and we have an awesome following. We keep ourselves very quiet though.

Ive loved 510's for a long time. I finally had a chance to get a good one and I jumped on it.

Its only been a year or so since ownership and I have done more to this car, and offered up new ideas for the community than most. Just search my posts.

Ok, so no Datsun ever came with a foot rest. I get it, youve never driven anything other than a Datsun.

DastsunMike, here is my public apology.

Did not mean to whip up the poop.

I will post my results when the foot rest/ dead pedal, arrives

/end

Hey, don't drag me into this. I clearly said I have never heard of this. Now I have.

Never heard of a dead pedal outside of a clutch or brake pedal that goes to the floor and does not work. Maybe explain what you are looking for.

They didn't come on any Datsun I've seen. (so understandably never heard of it/them before) My wife's Matrix has a ledge on the floor that you can place your foot on. Not a pedal.

Block of wood would also work.

Dolomite,

It is not bagging on someone to try to find out exactly what they are talking about

I had never heard of dead pedals on cars until this thread, we had "dead man" pedals on some of the cranes that I have operated. If you became incapacitated , your foot would come off the pedal and any crane movement would stop

I prefer to use proper jargon to be clear. I.E. # is a pound sign, not a hash tag. A "hack" is not something to be proud of
