Disallowed image extensions

I could post lots of relevant pics, some from my own emails, that are hosted (usually by Google), but when I try, they appear correctly in the edit window but when I save I get the Disallowed error.

 

This is hit or miss in other forums - if it posts in edit, it works, and then others, it doesn't.

 

For one thing, I'd like to know the definition of these extensions and why they are disallowed.

 

Since we cannot upload pics directly to this forum and must provide the hostings, it sure would be a big help to post these kinds of pics.

Well... what kind of pictures are they? Its more likely they just don't end in an acceptable extension.

if it ends in img or jpg , jpeg it will probably work ,,, if  ending in  "png" or some crazy cussing type text they will never work. >>  #@$^(  <<

bmp doesn't seem to work.  Other than that, I've gotten that code when the image url ended in .com or .net or .html etc.

I'm having trouble figuring out what "Copy Image" bring back.  It is some kind of a URL.  Here is a simple Paste of that:  (let's see if it sticks)

 

OK did a Preview and it works, yet says I cannot use that image extension.

Well it works but there is no thumbnail.

 

Trying a C&P image from BING:

 

it doesn't work either.

 

OK.  I have a pic from email or a google search or an internet page.  How do I use that image directly?  It is already hosted so I don't think I have to save it and then put it out on Photoshop, right?

If you want to post an image from a google search like I did earlier;

 

1: click the image in the search

2: click the button that says "View Image"

3: copy the url from the top of the browser

4: paste it in the reply box here.

5: type [-i-m-g-] before and [-/-i-m-g-] after the image code without the - marks (I had to include the - marks so that it wouldn't think there was an image inside)

 

From another website;

1: right click on the desired image

2: click "copy image url"

3: see 4 and 5 above

 

From email,  I don't know.  You may have to host those on your photobucket.

Rapakatui,  I think your instructions are basically doing the Link insert - I did that above and it works.

 

Here is an image C&P (not using the LINK or IMAGE buttons in this editor) from a web page that when inspected, is a .png:  (which works!)

 

 

 

Here is another direct Image C&P where in the long, long URL, you can see the image was a jpg:

 

DIDN'T WORK  here is the image URL:  (it starts with "data:image/jpeg;base64/..." which is reminiscent of the actual binary representation of the image file.  It does begin with "data" so perhaps that is what it is???)

I don't see the issue of extension if it already renders on another web page.

That seems to work fine for me too.  I don't know.  I've run into it before where certain images wouldn't work, but the problem doesn't seem to have anything to do with the file extension despite what the warning message says.

if the image is hosted as an attachment on another website and is listed within it's own URL properties as "attachment" or "upload" and is accompanied by the website's name and you try to hotlink it here it will not work on ratsun and will always give you the disallowed message:

 

I feel like that's the admin's attempt to be good interweb neighbors and discourage hot-linking because I go to other boards formatted like this and hot-linking is allowed.

 

if you really want us to see your image just save it via right-click and then post it via postimage.org. they are like the easiest third party host to use - you ain't even gotta register to upload and share the image on the boards immediately.

This kind normally works if you type the img and /img around it.  This one didn't.  Same befuddling file extension problem even though jpgs work here.

 

Until I typed it in all over again.  NOW it works.  No idea why.

Posti Image doesnt support the closed software of IP.Board which Ratsun uses.

 

I have Postimage running on NWD. Its great for those one off pictures, imsoniacs... but I would never use it for a build thread.
