Wednesday after work - time to start putting things back together.  Here are the parts you need for Summit Racing/QA1 rear coil-overs (these are 12" 250lb springs - you can choose whatever you like)

Excited and nervous at the same time.  I really want these CV axles to work.  I couldn't fit them in Cooper but no one else seems to have issues so...

Here is a Subaru LSD and the rear end from Cooper (I need the stub axles)

Subaru rear end measures approximately 20" from driveline flange to mustache bar mounting surface.

Fortunately, so do the rear ends from Cooper and Granny.  So far so good.

Half-shaft flange to half-shaft flange width is about 8 7/8" on Cooper's rear.

Cooper stub axles installed in the Surbaru rear end.

8 7/8", just like in the stock rear end!

Less worried about the mustache bar now.  But it is weird how different it is from what I'm used to.

Doggone update central in here today!  Those Bullet mirrors are awesome, I have a set on my 1200.....did not notice the L and R when I installed mine just kept all the parts from each box together.

To install the CV axle flanges, you need the nuts from the half shafts.  Unfortunately, since Granny had those weird ones, I was down 8 nuts.

Fortunately, I remembered a tin can that came with some parts I got years ago.  Sure enough, it had the nuts I needed inside.

Much to my delight.  Everything bolted right in.  Lots of end to end play in the axle too.  Now I really have to go back and look at Cooper and figure out what is different on that car!

Pretty sure I did the same on Trouble.  But this time I had everything mixed together for some dumb reason.

Lovin the updates on this today Carter! Like binging on netflix. Gonna get that rear coil overs in today and get her on the ground?

Thanks and glad you asked.

I did get more play time today.  First I had to see what else was in the trunk!

Check out the tool kit!

large.593a084f05246_06082017grannystyle(

Anyone know the contents of the kit that was included in with the car from the factory?  I thought that pouch was just for the tire iron but amidst the miss-matched tools there was this cool wrench:

Made me wonder...  Anyway, as expected, the trunk is just as nice as everything else on this car.

Then it was back inside to check/adjust the alignment.

After lowering, I had about 3/8" of toe-in.

I rotated each steering rod one turn.  That gave me about 1/2" of toe out!  Oops, too much...  A few more adjustments and I'm happy.  About 1/16" toe in again like I started with.

I don't have time to get tires for the AME 182's I have for granny so we'll be heading to Canby on hubcaps but just for fun, I grabbed the Techno Racing wheels slated for Rice Wagon and bolted those on.

Fronts are 14x6.5 +6, rears are 14x7 -1.  Tires are 185/55R14.  Fronts would almost work as-is.  Easy with fenders rolled.  Rears would need fenders rolled quite aggressively, and/or more camber.  In these photos, the rear fender lip is actually sitting on the tires (thus making the rear of the car about 1/2" too high).  I could not roll it into position.  I had to mount the wheels where it is.   My AME 182's are 14x6.5 +8 so they will fit better.  I may consider 175 section tires too.  We'll see.

Fun to get a sense of what is to come though.

Granny rear and weird halfshafts

Less worried about the mustache bar now.  But it is weird how different it is from what I'm used to.

FWIW, they made the change to those style shafts in late '72 in Japan. Here they made the switch when the 610 came out. All 610s (and I think 810s) have these. Odd that the Zs do not...

Experimental Engineering T/C kit of course:

Do you have the tool to tell you how far to thread the bolt for these? If love to know what that measurement is so I can try and dial mine in. Right now I just have them as close as I can.

It's 2.250 inches from the back of the rear washer to the front of the aluminum cup.

Thanks.  Jeff mentioned they were the "same as 610 halfshafts".  Makes sense that they started using them earlier rather than later.  Seems parts supply to the assembly line was quite fluid during the entire production run.

Saw this thing in person yesterday, granny sure is purdy.

Thanks!  Did I see you in person?  I wish all the Ratsun guys would carry signs above their shoulders with their profile picture/avatar and username on them.  I would like to have visited with more of you guys than I did.

Thanks Dave, and thanks Carter, but I roughed a tool out of some stainless sheet I had laying around.
