DaMuN
This is my 521. Found in a paddock years ago and took me just as long to call it mine. Not currently at my place but now at a mates place until I organise a car trailer. J15, column shift manual, bench seat. I would call it minimal rust. And minor issues. No throttle cable or brakes ( rear left drum pulled apart ) interior all still in it just falling apart from age. Nothing major planned for it. Repair the rust and fix up interior. Satin black paint with white roof. Lowed but not slammed. Stock rims painted red with chrome small hubcaps and white wall tires. Bring the wooden tray back to life. Transplant a CA20 with multi point ignition and column shift automatic. 720 diesel diff. And hopefully do something with the front brakes. short list, lots of work, not a lot of time. I will have a day or so to work on it between jobs. Also add that I'm a paraplegic (the reason I'm changing it to automatic) makes it a little more harder. But not to worry, my mate is excited to help me out. Now for the questions... Are there any factory mounts that will bolt a CA20 to 521? Any column shift automatic that will work off a CA20? Adding photos later today. 1 Quote Link to comment

windowless66
Any progress? 1 Quote Link to comment
DaMuN
I don't have much free time but have made a small amount haha. More step backwards than step forward. Rear right break was pulled apart. And still is.(asbestos) Don't know if all pieces are floating around. Break peddle doesn't move. At all. So something has seized. Clutch pad seems OK because it grabbed gears to slow down while towing closer to my mates shed...but the fluid has been replaced with motor oil. Started to swap a slave from a 720 buy ran out of light. We did start her! Had to bypass a couple things in the engine bay but she ran. Smooth too! Last time any one knew it to run was over 7 years ago. It's coming into summer here so our days are gonna get hella long. Just need to get it to stop, so can we unload it from a trailer. Then I can finally bring her home! 2 Quote Link to comment
DanielC
Brake pedal not moving is likey a bad master cylinder. Trust me, get the brakes working first. It can save having to do additional body work. 2 Quote Link to comment
DaMuN
It's going to be living on a flat slap and I'm hoping that the clutch will hold long enough to stop her. But I know what your on about by additional body work. I'm going to play with the clutch as I'm nearly done with it, if that fails then hit the breaks. I know I will have to clamp off the rear and have fronts only. 1 Quote Link to comment
DaMuN
The mighty j15 in its natural habitat...also found in forklifts lol http://i.imgur.com/8VDBXHc.jpg Interior in need of a vacuum...and more. http://i.imgur.com/qVasuS8.jpg The tray needs a stain. That is all. And rear lights. http://i.imgur.com/ifO75uu.jpg I'm hoping that's a original miles. Not over clocked. http://i.imgur.com/1q1lqIY.jpg Other than little rust pits all over it, the paint will come back sweet. Also obvious it's had a respray very close matching to the original blue. http://i.imgur.com/aTyL5YR.jpg http://i.imgur.com/luiO3cc.jpg http://i.imgur.com/raaRMib.jpg Switched a 720 for the 521 master clutch cylinder. Made it work. Was going to switch the innards but the 521 was seized solid. So done this. http://i.imgur.com/AHPfC8H.jpg Started to bleed it but ran out of time coz family stuff. Also taking ages to do as by myself and I'm a paraplegic so climbing in and out and underneath was hella time consuming. 2 Quote Link to comment
windowless66
Good bit of progress should be a nice ute, Don't see too many 521's around in Australia. 1 Quote Link to comment
fritzdixxon
Paraplegic and you are going to run a standard? Kudos to that. I've only ever driven a friends auto with hand controls 1 Quote Link to comment
DaMuN
I would LOVE to drive a manual again. Really really love to! I've seen the manual hand control kits but nothing for a column shift. I can't see it being to hard to modify one. The j15 is old and parts are hard and expensive here in AUS so I'm.hoping it doesn't need much. The original plan was to put a L series motor with a auto box behind it. But closer inspection while bleeding the clutch looks like it has a L series box already with a adaptor plate. Is this normal? Lots of ideas on how to get it best and reliable for me. L18 or 20b swap. KA22 swap. 720 motor. CA20 swap. Pintara motor. Cab swap onto a 720 frame. But first I want it to be drive able then regoed. Then I will tinker with its power plant. 2 Quote Link to comment
