Its amazing what a little shade can do.

That umbrella took unbearable sun and heat down to not to shabby. I'm going to do this more often.

I finished some engine bay wiring, bolted two wiring hangers to the intake manifold and one to the firewall. I'm going to need one more on the firewall and then i need to add a couple up front where the wiring crosses under the radiator. That should finish up the last of the wiring.

Seriously, I'm only this close because i told myself i had to quit adding features. I have no speaker wiring at all, i was considering heated seats, only some ac wiring, etc.

Inside i haven't finished the door jamb switches, finished the wiring for the elecrtochromic mirror, or figured out where my dimmer switch is going to go now that I'm putting in my ac piping.

I'm just ignoring all that to get the car functional.

Your wiring will get there soon.

I have heated seats. I wired them up but only because I drove my car last winter. I  won't do that again.

Hahaha thanks kelmo. I haven't purchased hosting, I'm still on free hosting, i just moved to postimage.io. so I'm having to redo each link one by one. Unfortunately, the cool trick Josh K used doesn't work with free hosting so manual labor it is.

Bought some old 13x5 steelies for the wagon. Been wanting some kind of deep lip steelie for a while and figured these were cheap enough I could destroy them and it wouldn't matter.I used the brake lathe at work to cut the welds holding the faces in.IMG_20151121_173034058_zps2ghnxdwy.jpgIMG_20151121_173042003_zpslured5yr.jpgWith face out I plan to flip it in the barrel.IMG_20151121_141436087_zps7vczfury.jpgThere isn't a lot of room for adjustment on a rim this narrow. I can move the face maybe 3/8 of an inch positive or negative offset from this position and still have good structural stability.Like this it's a 13x5 et-6, which pokes just the tiniest bit more than the 6 spoke Z rims my car currently has.Black lip is the flipped barrel (modified) version.IMG_20151121_141653877_zps4oog2tqy.jpgIMG_20151121_142219702_zpssd7athdf.jpgOnly two are cut. I haven't actually test fitted them yet either. Been too cold. Test fit will help me determine final offset.

DONE! All pic links are updated and functional again as far I can tell. If you notice that I missed any, please let me know so I can correct it.

Work is slow on the car itself. I've done a few small things, but for now all attention is being diverted AWAY from the 510.

I installed a 720 ST steering wheel. I might like a different button eventually though. This one says Nissan. The wheels are nearly the same size, but the new is slightly smaller.

I'm also working on a 720 short shaft transmission that I will install once it is ready.

That transmission will go nicely with my newest center console idea, which is a MK1 VW console, which already has 3 gauge holes in it.

I still need to buy one though.

But for now, this is on pause. I am actively rebuilding my s13. It's the closest to running driving status so I'm just getting that done. I've already put in a bunch of work on it. I've also had to part down an R50 pathfinder and a 720 completely in the last little while.

Beyond all that, I have a surprise medical bill that needs funding. I just finished up some simple stuff on my 81 GL500 Silverwing motorcycle so I can sell it. I also picked up another 720 I planned to use for parts but I discovered it runs fine and just needs some simple stuff. I'm going to swap out some parts on it and sell it as well. Between the two I should be able to cover the bill.

Pics restored up to page 8

That is good news Lockleaf!!!

I turn mine to HTML format (BBCode Mode) while swapping out the old picture links with the new picture links as this will show the file name of the Photo_uckit broken link. button at the top left of the blue tool bar next to the pencil eraser icon.

  • 8 months later...

Long time with little Datsuning going on. Very busy winter and spring, a seriously worked over 5.3LS engine and mostly finished ka24e rebuild, all of which has kept me busy, none of which has anything to do with this car.

My wife bought me a piece for the car though. I'm very excited. Fitment ended up perfect. A loud shout out to Volkwagener who turned me on to this.

Mk1 vw Jetta (and other things) center console. Already setup for 3 gauges so i will be installing my clock, volt and oil pressure gauges in this.

This is with a long 71b trans in it. I think with a little fiddling the console would work with long or short transmissions and look fine.

I squeezed in a little more Datsuning.

Time to add my gauges. Volt and oil were easy. Push in to center console. Boom. Done. As i hoped, the gauges were the same size as the original vdo gauges for this console.

Then came the fun bit. The clock.

Just for a refresher, I'm running 720 oil and volt meters and an infiniti qx4 analog clock.

The 720 stuff pushes in from the front. The clock comes in from the back and mounts it's own special way. And doesn't match.

Here's how it looks with the Infiniti bezel on there. Really i just took the faceplate off the clock, put the clock behind and the faceplate on the front.

large.20180519_000846.jpg.40c3ac3b25c91f

I got lucky. The clock face is basically the same diameter as the other gauges.

large.20180519_000944.jpg.0cce5bfca412aa

I took the clock faceplate apart to get the lens.

large.20180518_235602.jpg.cac1f82051bb28

Then took apart a spare 720 gauge to get the chrome bezel from it.

large.20180518_235338.jpg.e3e8b1fe127171

Again i got super lucky. The clock lens was nearly the perfect diameter to fit the 720 bezel. I bent the bezel mounting trans around the lens to hold it.

Then spent a couple hours slowly modifying the case for the clock to fit properly in the console.

large.20180519_001833.jpg.b78112933e26a3

Trimmed the box depth, removed the studs and spikes sticking out all over it, and did some work to the alignment dowels for the clock face. "Fabbed" up some retainers for the clock as well.

large.20180519_023751.jpg.4c834a19c00463

The lens i had tack in place with some rubbery craft glue dots. No real way to mount the lens to the gauge. Gauge from behind and lens from the front.

large.20180519_023731.jpg.c451bf365336a9

I'm crazy stoked about how it turned out. Better than i had hoped honestly. I'm really happy with the overall look. And while i was at it, i took 303 protectant to the console. Cleaned up nice.

Installed (actually just set in place)

large.20180519_195708.jpg.404706492665e3

And all the bounteous gauges!

large.20180519_195625.jpg.53cdadfb09c7a1

And thus ends today's episode of gauges ad nauseum.

I also built another cool little project.

At the beginning of this thread i showed a build for a slammed red rider wagon. Well now it has a trailer.

large.20180505_212309.jpg.93eeded97e8a64

I lowered the trailer but the body itself is unmodified. Its an old John Deere wagon trailer. The tongue on the trailer is only tacked together in the pics but since then I've plated the openings over and welded everything. The trailer is designed to also work as a tiny wagon on it's own. Together, these make a long rig that isn't always maneuverable.

large.20180505_212405.jpg.8343ca279c36d6

The handle is yet to be built, but will break down into a couple parts and stay on a little rack on the wagon. The handle will be attached directly to the caster and the caster will wingnut to the trailer for quick assembly.
