Dguy210
And a quick bit of sanding, filler primer, and a lick of paint. Not quite finished with sanding and filling clean up but wanted to see about what it would look like. Edited July 4, 2021 by Dguy210 7 Quote Link to comment
Dguy210
Screws fit and mount correctly, test fit of mirrored version also shows that works. Final painted and sanded version at the end. Edited July 5, 2021 by Dguy210 7 Quote Link to comment

Dguy210
Just a tiny bit undersized, I made an error and based the design on the size of the metal grate which is just a bit undersized for the original plastic vents. However, I'm done with messing with this I think as these are more than workable. The STL file still has some remaining errors and could use a bit of a clean up of some minor vestigial remnants. Second test for the one on the right was without support and I got a good print down to about 8 hours. Total cost of plastic to do so is around $2. Could use a bit more sanding and primer fill to clean it up but I'm getting bored now. I'll probably order some white PETG (this was all PETG) as it is a bit more heat tolerant than PLA and print up a few sets. Mostly did this because I needed a set and as a personal challenge. Still a few nagging issues I could clean up but I'm kind of not interested in dealing with this much any more. I will NOT be making this STL public likely as I do not feel the quality is quite there and I've put quite a few hours of effort into it and frankly I've been burned on people taking my effort to make a profit. Edit: these are insanely strong for what they are. I was painting the new one on the right on some cardboard on the shop floor and ended up stepping on it as I'm a clutz and not a small guy by any means. Held up without a problem and that is with a 10% infill. The plastic is quite a bit thicker than the original and also not 50 years old too. Edited July 11, 2021 by Dguy210 5 Quote Link to comment

I'll probably make 2 or 3 sets and bring them to some meets. Making and charging is just not worth my time really, as just getting out to ship something is a serious pain. Remember each set will cost me something like 16 hours of print time. 1 Quote Link to comment

]2eDeYe
Thanks. I tried some but was not having good results. I learned with PLA that brand matters. 🙂 Will order a roll and see how it goes. 1 Quote Link to comment

Seems a bit better than PLA as far as ductility and prints nicely if a bit slower on some machines (60mm/s which is about the limit of the Cr2v10 anyways). Esun seems to be one of the better brands without being expensive. 1kg role was about $20 off Amazon. I've got the white vents printing currently. That little panel in the radio delete is pretty freaking sweet. Edited July 18, 2021 by Dguy210 3 Quote Link to comment

]2eDeYe
Is that printing with no support? I will order a roll of their pteg and try it out. And thanks, I think it took about 8 prints to get it right. That pic is #7 I had to pitch the display up 30degs to get it to read 0deg on the tilt gauge. 1 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
The display is a sweet little unit. I mostly wanted a tiltmeter and altimeter. It has those plus all sorts of other information. https://www.amazon.com/CARTOOL-M60-Speed-Slope-Meter/dp/B08ZXTG4KQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=234CCGWWSTAZC&dchild=1&keywords=cartool+gauges&qid=1626614332&sprefix=cartool+ga%2Caps%2C224&sr=8-3 1 Quote Link to comment

I'm actually amazed it printed those big gaps too, the design was tolerant of those having sag but it actually worked pretty well That is a neat little unit, not too bad price wise either. 2 Quote Link to comment
Dguy210
First 2 sets off the printer. Will still need a bit of sanding and touchup (haven't decided yet if I will do this myself or not). Tempted to try skimming with some bondo to fill the layer lines and then, not sure yet. I also have the other ones already finished and installed on the 1200. Now I just need to figure out what is next. 2 Quote Link to comment

]2eDeYe
Thanks for the pteg recommendation. Printed decent right away. Love that it is flexible. So far dishwasher parts are holding up now. The delete plate is the final print, I think... 3 Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
If you're actually using Bondo, look up Feather Fill by Evercoat......not that cheap.....Eastwood may have an alternative. Way easier to work with. 2 Quote Link to comment

I used "Bondo" as the generic term, I personally find actual Bondo to be kind of crap. 2 Quote Link to comment

FF is lighter, sands easier, mixes easier, dries faster.....better in every aspect. 2 Quote Link to comment
Dguy210
720 sunvisor clips off the Thingiverse file. This print well actually, about an 1hr a piece. I'll bring a few to the Datsuns Around Bend camping event this weekend if anyone wants to buy some. Edited August 25, 2021 by Dguy210 4 Quote Link to comment
