Chris' 68 4 door bluh bluh bluh Datsun

Sealer is usually non sanding, or sand where u want without the obligation of sanding the entire area. The epoxy primer I use doubles as a primer and sealer. Depending if u mix reducer with it.

I could of sprayed multiple coats let it dry then completely sanded it. But it's the inside of a trunk lid. And has been completely sanded and ready for paint already.

I see. Yeah I never tried sanding sealer, usually just shot over it wet on wet. I didn't realize you could sand it, or just spot sand it. Good to know!

Going through the phases with doors and fenders and making sure everything lines up once painted.

These panels were sitting around the shop last year, I didn't have the time to do the filler work and welding, so I metal etched them and metal loc primed them.

Was surprised how much metal loc I needed to take off to do filler work and make straight

Once everything was roughed. We rebuilt the upper hinges. and installed all the panels on the left side. We ended up doing an additional amount of hammer and dolly work so the door / fender lines match up, and the door / door lines match.

New request, fender mirrors. Chris probably told me but I couldn't remember after 3 years ;)

End of March is this car 3 year anniversary, fucking A. looking to be done. Yes if you want me to paint your car you have to be patient.

Just to give you all an idea of how much time it takes. Just making sure the right side of the car is good and fitment is good is a 6-8 hour job. I leave out some of the boring stuff.

We all like premature ejaculation

2nd blocking

the black over spray stuff is called gidecoat, tell you if there are high and low spots, that need addressing.

Think I will keep these Bluebird rusty fenders forever, as they come in handy for mirror placement

Primed, one more step in the finishing direction. You notice most of the work needed was were I had to make things line up with a body hammer

You should have a template made from that rusty fender that sits over the fender you're going to drill holes in. That way there is no measuring or anything.

Yup ................I thought the same thing, why keep the rusty old fender , a thin strip of aluminum the same shape as the top of the fender with the holes in it would work for both sides, just flip it over.

Wasn't going to say anything , might be rude ...................way to go Janksun.

Templates are good

this dog leg has been bugging me a lot, so I decided to do it right. Most people would not of even noticed, but I do and have had the car long enough to just do it.

I just spent the last 4 hours talking with a new hood for this little beast. And opening up hinge holes so everything lines up before she is painted. Pictures to cum.

More progress :)

had a hood ready to go and did the alignment process, with the loving cowl. and realized it got media blasted to aggressively. WARPED. found a hood we chemically stripped. set it up and made it fit with some hood hinge mods.

On with more sanding, do you all see a pattern here?

I was using Metal Loc by Sem, but it sands like a fucking rock. and sprays like sand. So I changed it up. This product sprays amazing sticks to everything, and sands like baby powder.

always amazing work

I am curious if the indent for the fender mirrors in the later models was also or possibly created as a crumple zone to give the car a weaker spot to fold in a crash
