Hey Mike could you measure the diff while you have it out? Could you measure end to end, the diameter of it, the flange diameter where the ring gear mounts to, and how many bolts hold the two halves together? I have an idea I need to verify if it will work or not. peace.

I have the axles and diff wrapped up in 3mil plastic but accessible. I was going to use an angle grinder to cut the 4 link mounts off but went to the wreckers and they let me use the torches....coooool!!!!

It's our long Thanksgiving weekend up here so I cut it today so I can grind everything nice and smooth.

Sweet!!! I don't really have anything to add to the truck axle thread, I'm following it very close though :D More pics of the truck would be nice though :D Maybe one of it in the mud :D

Oh man the body is getting rough. Has sat in the back yard for a year, but got the Z24 running this summer and drove it less than a tank full. This axle is using up a lot of my ambition or maybe has fired it up a bit? All that's left is to grind all the crap off and make or cut some spring perches. I think I'll mount and adjust the pinion angle and tack them on then weld in place, mount and then install the axles and bum. This fucker is HEAVY. Just short of 9.25" like a Ford 9".

Then on to the 4Runner IFS disc swap. This will widen the front track a bit but will be close to the H-233 rear. Thanks again Steve for the explanation on this swap. I would have done this a long time ago but it would have been way too wide for the 620/720 rear axle I think. Once the H-233 is in it should be about 1/2" to1" wider per side, than the front as it is now. With the IFS hubs and FJ-60 rotors the front should widen to about 1" per side wider than the back. And that's what it is now and it looks fine. I think the wider 33s hide the fact.

Ice, I guess if I cover it in mud, you cant see the rust, right???

Perhaps it is...just doesn't look like there's room for the clutches, etc, but I'm probably wrong. Check this page out, scroll to the bottom:

Helical looks similar to this:

Thanks for the link Matt! I think the picture is of a Torensen diff. Nismopu wants some measurements so while I have it out I'll take another really good look at it.

Wow that was a lot of grinding but I was afraid to blow a hole in the axle tube with a cutting torch! It's fast and unforgiving for a noob.

Here's the sticker. Its in the middle of the rear end's bum and small like your thumb nail. I only found/saw it after it was out and I rubbed the dirt off of it.

While at the wreckers today I checked the other two Pathfinder rears and when I scraped the undercoating/oily crap off, I found both were LSDs! but with a 4.375 ratio, same as most 620s. Now I feel better as I can go down to 4.375 if the 4.625 is too tall for me.

Sorry nis, but I have some pictures I found. Definitely a clutch pack LSD. The early Pathfinders to '95 require 260-289 ft lbs of torque to begin turning one wheel against the other. The 00-02 X-Terra model requires break-away torque of 138-180 ft-lbs. The 03-04 only needs 29-43 ft-lbs. This last one is a joke.
