The Taterhead
Weren't you building an L20 for this at one point? Before you moved? That's where I thought this was going. I can't keep up. 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Never the thought of an L20. If someone has a Z20 laying around though... 1 Quote Link to comment

We do what we need to. I'll be subletting some of the cleaning to some rookies I work with. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Son, that is one c l e a n head. Someone did their oil changes. Never the thought of an L20.If someone has a Z20 laying around though... I have a Z20 block laying around plastic wrapped. Just the block. Might have the crank. All you need are the L20B rods and pistons. 2 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
But I want the Z20 internals. Longer stroke than a full L20B, flattops. Add my W53 to that mix...Whammy. As for that clean head...Only a 210. Since I'll be running the L16 for the foreseeable future... For the sake of transparency: This L16/210 motor; resealed. L16, header-style, exhaust manifold. Properly plugged ports. L16 intake with a 32/36 sitting on top. Matchbox dizzy with an OE coil. 63A dogleg. Exedy clutch. We'll see what else happens as funds/time become available. 1 Quote Link to comment

wayno
Z20 and L20b have the same 86mm stroke, the only difference is that the long rods(152.5mm) in some of the Z20E and Z20S blocks are longer and the piston pin is in a different location in the piston. The long rod engine that interests me is the Z22 block/crank, Z20 longrods(152.5), and the custom Z24 pistons. But I want the Z20 internals. Longer stroke than a full L20B, flattops. flatcat19
The other difference is piston dish. Occ(Z20) vs 11cc(L20B) And with a slightly longer rod... I still have all the pieces here to do an 86mm long rod L18/19. Just don't have the funds or time right now. That's the no-so-distant future project. If a Z20 were to show up, I could change plans. No worries though. But enough dreaming. This L16 has been a very solid motor so far. It will continue to be my workhorse for a wee bit longer. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If I remember right it does go pretty damn well. The dogleg will have a slightly closer ratio gear set, same 4th and 0.854 OD. 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Unexpected delivery today. Hot Wheels trading done properly! Bought this... It is not as teal as it looks in the pic. Looks pretty close to what I remember Datsun green/blue looking. Brought home tons of cleaning supplies from work. Wire brushes, roloc discs, brake clean, degreaser, masking tape, etc. Hopefully going to make some progress this weekend...If I'm not too terribly sore from work. 3 Quote Link to comment
HOGIE
Is the paint for the block? I used Detroit diesel green for my block. Looks good in the dragon Green engine bay. 1 Quote Link to comment

I almost bought a close to dragon green. Decided not. Almost actually bought pink to match Diego's panties. Decided not. Almost bought black just to look skinnier. Decided not. Bought that lagoon blue just to test how close the color is to Datsun's original engine paint. 1 Quote Link to comment

MYDAILYROUTINE
Great job man! Wish I lived closer so I could help. I couldn't believe how good that motor runs, unbelievable. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Yeah. Let's hope it stays running good, if not better. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Bought that lagoon blue just to test how close the color is to Datsun's original engine paint. The Ford blue isn't bad. At least I think that's what I used... Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
The funny bit...I hate blue. Can't stand any shade of it. Last time I was at a parts store I saw a can of VHT Pontiac Catalina blue. It was as close as I had seen. Next time I went, gone. And not very cheap either. Saw this Lagoon Blue at WalMart for a couple of bucks. Meh. It's a bit too windy today to paint. But the temp is right. Maybe tomorrow will be more ideal. Also...This happened... KA ALT!!!!!!!! Passed testing multiple times at parts house! Dat810Goon and 76datto made this possible. Kevin gave me a KA alt plug last week when my alt jumped the shark. 3 Quote Link to comment
