Because it's got to go far forward to make the shifter work.The '68-'69 core is tiny compared to the later cores. It'll fit better but might not put out as much heat. None of them put out much heat/air. ^_^ Once saw a fella replace his crappy stock squirrel cage fan with one of these and it really moved some air... Desktop computer cooling fan.
