DaBlist
"179 HP on the Dyno" How much detuned to run on pump gas? Hate it when people give HP numbers for a claimed street motor when the Dyno tune and fuel isn't what they run on the street. Kind of like saying I weigh buck forty nine (but that was back in high school) Quote Link to comment

And it is 179 at the fly wheel not at the wheels. It's an idea guys lets not get all flamed up over it. Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
Ray, can you show us what this cover looks like inside? Perhaps flip it over and take a pic? Don't have it Eric it's at the powder coaters already. It's just a plate on a angle to keep oil from just splashing in to the new vent line. Very simple thing Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
I don't know man. 11k is an enormous wad for an engine, I don't care who built it. I have messages from him saying it makes like 200hp at the crank, and the power band is from 3000-8000RPM. $3500 is still a lot of money for an L18. He drives it on the street with no issues; it wouldn't be the engine for me, that's all I have to say. I'd go for the mildly built engine, just for the reliability factor. I'm just thinking about it because it would be fun to have one of those L blocks but I kind of like it now with the L16. Slow but done. I am still getting the other one I got from Joe going. I was thinking of keeping the 32/36 and make a plate to bolt up a stock air cleaner but what color do I make it. The valve cover right now is going to be red to go with the interior. I do have the mikunis to put on but ? And yea 3500.00 is a lot of money but there is a lot of work in it and that for everything also even the tranny mounts all of it except the body.. mrbigtanker
My Robello L16 punched out to a 5.7. Puts down 350hp at he wheels on 87 octane. lol  2 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Last threadjack Ray, I swear... Ooooo nice idea. I think I now have a plan, thanks :) Side note, if you take a soda can, cut it around it's circumference about 5mm down from the top, you can use the top part of the can as a stencil of sorts. I just set the soda can top down on a sticker, traced around it with an X-acto knife, then the sticker is a perfect fit for the oil cap. If that doesn't make sense, PM me and I'll send you a pic. 1 Quote Link to comment
r0p0doe
179hp L18? If that's at the wheels, that doesn't sound streetable. Even at the crank that's a lot. Is it Brandon's? If so, don't buy it. He still has points :) (I told him to upgrade for a selling feature) Fuck off! Your car drives fine! Tanker, I'll buy you a 5 gallon tub of your favorite ice cream flavor if you pay for my much needed engine rebuild, so we can go fast together, and eat ice cream  Don't be mad I came up with the idea I get priority bitch :fu: 1 Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
Ray Ray Ray Ray What are u doing. A L28 is a much better choice with a N42 head. A great alternative to the S20 based on cost benefit analysis. I mean a L28 is 10X bigger then a L18. Sorry I forgot this is a short nose 510. Literally nothing in the above statement is useful information. All figures in the preceding statements have been calculated using Common Core Math. I'm earlyvws and I approve this message. 4 Quote Link to comment
ol' 320
Just graft on '59 Cadillac tail fins and replace the taillights with JATO rockets. Maximum forward acceleration... Quote Link to comment
datsunrides
Rebello power FTW. Yeah, it's a U motor, but there is relations to the L motor. The dished pistons are because boosted. Old ass U20 with Rebello touches and 7lbs of boost = 5k + of spirited driving with no issues so far. The magic is in the headwork. If you can get a Rebello motor for a good price, jump on it. Just don't chrome anything for a week and it's paid for. Mark 3 Quote Link to comment

This engine the kid is selling got 4030.00 alone in the head, now to be honest i would just do something else for the money but if you classic race were the rules dont allow modern engines then squeeze all you can out of what you can. I want to buy it but just dont know if I will really regret it later.[i will] Quote Link to comment
shacks510
You already bought an engine you'll be happy with. I say just use what you have. 1 Quote Link to comment

There are people out there that can make a L motor run with Ka's or SR's (to a certain extent), but when you factor in the cost to do so, the swaps make better sense financially. On the other hand, it's kinda cool to run with a swapped car, then show them your dinosaur motor. Race motors will have a top heavy powerband, which is not the best for the street. Sure it will haul ass, if you want to keep it wound up all the time. Not what you want if your just looking to cruise. 2 Quote Link to comment

Laecaon
Want my roof rack? I think its nearly identical to Datrods. I got it NIB, never installed the middle slats, on my car for 2-3 years of driving, and then my car has been in the garage since. I can get pictures, its an AMCO rack. 1 Quote Link to comment
