I feel you Keith, but as a parts guy, I know first hand.  NEVER let someone bring you parts to work on their car.  I look up ALL the parts needed, then quote them a price, then get cash up front to buy said parts.  Then I fix the car.  Labor is due before they pick their car up.  I've been burned about twice, but in 5 years.  Granted, anymore I don't have time.  I donate time to the worthy on occasion.  But that's completely separate.  I choose to do that, and I choose to do it for free.  That is also rare, just on a need to basis.
