Carter 71
Hi from the UK! So I originally went to look at an Oz import that was a proper project, the geezer selling is in the Datsun/Nissan game and I think he is a member on here, he said come see what he has. I did. Fell in love with this... Imported from California only a month or two before, and just getting its registration and MoT. It hooked me, a deal was done. Picked it up a few weeks later, drove it the couple of hundred mile home and it didn't miss a beat, happy! 3 Quote Link to comment
Carter 71
Good, photos work, though the Photobucket app I'm using is being a temperamental twatbag. Got hold of a set of period Wolfrace slot mags, 6 lug.. They had been painted satin black, so ghetto refurb time, and managed to find some centrecaps that fitted... 4 Quote Link to comment
Carter 71
Then some modest lowering, 3 inch blocks on the rear and reindexed the front torsion bars by 1 spline Also put some sound deadening in the cab and lightweight auto carpet. Few other odd jobs, including replacing the split 'kangaroo pouch' washer bag with an Asahi beer can I had stashed. Responsibly drank the beer first of course... 4 Quote Link to comment
Carter 71
Was using the truck for work, I'm a carpenter, then summer hit so did little else but had fun. A few random photos, I've heard you lot like a photo. 3 Quote Link to comment
Carter 71
We come to now, I've got hold of this... L20b and 5 speed box. The current engine and gearbox are tiiiired and crunchy, so it made sense. Swap will commence in the next month or two. I'm pretty much decided on a 32/36 weber carb, what are the kits from Weber Carbs Direct like? 2 Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
Very nice my friend over the pond. That truck you have there is a nice truck and well worth the trip over in to your hands. Love the pics. The L20b will be a great improvment over the 1600 plus 5 speed equals win and better fuel milage not that i care but at 1.30 a liter and 3.785 liters to a US gallon I would care. Let us know if you need parts or help there is a whole lot of help on this forum. cheers  2 Quote Link to comment

dr.feltersnatch
The very first car I ever drove was a 71 521 looked just like that. Same color too. 3 Quote Link to comment
Carter 71
The very first car I ever drove was a 71 521 looked just like that. Same color too. Cool! My first car was a Mk3 Ford Cortina, cost me £50, painted it Matt black and meshed over side and rear windows. I was young and watched Mad Max a few too many times. 2 Quote Link to comment
hobospyder
That's legal? 1 Quote Link to comment
Carter 71
That's legal? The meshed over windows? No, not really. The whole car wasn't strictly legal, I wasn't strictly legal, but it was the late eighties and I was a delinquent traveller, high on punk rock, hip hop, and carmageddon films. Good times. 3 Quote Link to comment

Carter 71
32/36 DGV Weber carb arrived, so got the ball rolling a little... Had the inlet manifold machined, restudded, and ported for the new carb. Engine loaded up and off to the workshop... Initial verdict.. A shed load of rust deposits and crap inside, hopefully will flush through ok. Leaking water pump, and a few other issues to get over. 2 Quote Link to comment
Carter 71
^^^ that was over a week ago... L20b is in, 5 spd is in, prop shaft is shortened. As I said before, water pump was knackered, alternator wouldn't line up, and also had no fuel pump. Used the L16 items. Couple of engine flushes, and oil changes, and it's running pretty well considering the state of it. Smokey as hell at times, if it doesn't clear after a bit of running and another oil change then I'll look at getting some engine work done and such. I'll get the teething problems sorted, then look at the next steps. Had the inlet manifold blanked where the egr/emissions crap was... Gearbox is a little longer, made a 'stick gater replacement now... Chucked on my old suichuuka shift knob I had on my Sapporo, for fun like, until I find something else... So, happy as hell it's been done, but frustrated the engine itself isn't healthy. 3 Quote Link to comment

laotsu
I helped export this truck from CA. Have you adjusted the brakes? the first day I had it I locked them up and it did a 360 in the middle of the street. interesting direction with the slot mags. Glad to see the truck went to somebody that is improving it. That's an authentic Bardon bumper on the back. 1 Quote Link to comment
