carterb
So, obviously the exterior is going to need some work. How about the interior? 69 Dash: A little hammered, otherwise Dash is almost complete. Spare dash is in better shape I believe. Passengers foot-well: Previous repair work. Will have to cut out and re-do. Rear seat area: This part of the car may just be okay! Rear window deck: Multiple speaker installation attempts? Will require some repair. Passengers side door: Non-working door latch hardware, bungee cord required. Quote Link to comment
carterb
Rear flare installation: Hopefully I won't have to un-do this. Rear seat area: Another view - looks mostly okay. Front inside area: Tranny tunnel may need closed back up. Drivers side footwell: More repair work that will need to be re-done. 69 dash and steering wheel: Needs steering column clamshell. Steering wheel will be replaced with something racier. Quote Link to comment
carterb
Needed to take stock of everything not bolted to the car: Hood, Fenders, Grill etc: The hood has a pretty big dent/bulge over the battery. That's going to be tough to fix! Seats, door panels, etc: Seats are 240z? Not sure if I'll be able to use them or not. Another view: Back seat, 1/4 windows, wheels, etc: 1/4 windows are pretty rusty. Tires are toast! Taillight panel and tail lights: Taillight panel is beyond rusted out! Tail lights have some useable parts. Quote Link to comment
carterb
Tail light panel: You ever see one this bad? Quote Link to comment
carterb
Oh, forgot these interior parts: Custom door panels done up in seat material? Okay, now then... I mentioned my little freeway drama resulted in flat spotting a tire right? Good thing it was fresh tread! I don't think one of the tires that came with the car could have given up this much rubber. :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: Quote Link to comment
carterb
They don't make that tire anymore either so I made a trip to the tire store to have it and another one dismounted and replaced to make a matching set. I also dismounted all other bad tires on the 280z rims and the rewinds. The 280z rims went to a new buyer via craigslist but the rewinds got new tires and will be mounted to Race Car. carterb
I needed to at least set the pieces in place to see what I really have here, otherwise, just looking at the rust, it's a little depressing. With front fenders hanging in place. These were actually taken BEFORE the new tires were installed. Starting to see some inspiration here... Quote Link to comment
carterb
The rewinds fill out the flares quite nicely! I put the seats in too. Have to store them somewhere, may as well be in place. Debating on whether I will actually run a rear seat. With the "Race Car" theme, I want to run a roll bar and may just leave leave the rear area empty. If anyone local (NW) has a bolt in or weld in roll bar for a 510 they'd like to sell, let's talk. carterb
Yeah, I went there first. ~$500-$600 http://www.autopowerindustries.com/ApplicationList.aspx Seems like quite a lot for a few bent tubes. And there will be freight on top of that. They pop up now and then 2nd hand for less, so I'm on the look-out. 2 Quote Link to comment
carterb
Got the new wheels/tires mounted and had to do some garage bay shuffling so I took some pictures while it was outside. 1 Quote Link to comment
Trophy24
Love the wheel and tire combo with the flairs. They seem to fit the wheel wells just right. What engine are you thinking? Maybe another VG? Quote Link to comment
carterb
What engine are you thinking? Maybe another VG? I want to keep it L-motor like a real 510 race car. I'm on the lookout for a set of dual mikunis or webers or something if anyone has a set they would like to off-load. 1 Quote Link to comment

Just Joel
$165 for four bends?! lol Carter, come and visit when she's on the road and I'll help you out ;) Quote Link to comment
carterb
Right... Looking again it's just the cut/bent tubes isn't it. Not a welded assembly. No doubt it could be done cheaper but if you call them one day and the tubes show up at your door the next ready for weld, that's not bad. None of us like to consider what our own time is worth when comparing DIY prices to off-the-shelf goods. 1 Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
Indeed... So long as they keep it tight, it's not a horrible deal. Quote Link to comment
jeph
yeah im going with the 8 point for 300$ in february so if you still deciding by then ill let you know how it is. ive only bought them for 240sx and honda civic and they fit great. never tried in a 510 though which is really square so should be easy for them. Just Joel
I would guess they'll be able to do a good job. Tube sidewall seems a bit heavy... Too bad they don't offer a .120 DOM option. Quote Link to comment
