My first 1973 1200

I'm new to the group, just wanted to share my first Datsun 1200 1973.

I picked it up late 2013 from Reno Nevada.  I'm in Sacramento, so I had to trailer it down to get it back home.  The engine was not running when I finally got to view it in person but the man insisted that it would run.  I had to take a chance since I already made the drive all the way up there, plus it was my only chance to buy one! (wife said yes on a project car, doesn't happen).  I wanted a white/cream paint job but the red is growing on me.

Worked on the engine with my grandfather and he got it up and running.  Wiring issues were the main problem and the carburetor was set very low for some reason... Now I am securing all the older suspension issues. One of the last owners cut the springs just to get it lower...

I drive to work daily, around 46 miles round trip.  Saves on gas and it's fun to drive! Plus it's fun to put a smile on peoples faces to see a classic going strong!

I just bought a front bumper, will be up in a few weeks.

This is the day I bought it.

Spent some good quality time with grandpa to get it up and running!

Changed the front lights back to the original grill and round headlights.  The one that was on is from the Nissan b140 truck, which I still have if someone wants it...

The tire that came were a bit too high for the front fender.  I believe they were 175/90/13.   The rims that are on are 5.5 width.

I decided to take off the back window tints to give it a more vintage look.

Look what came from Techno Toy Tuning today! I called them to see if they can make the package with the shorten struts since it wasn't listed on their site. 5 days later these arrive since they already had the 1200 struts welded together.

Glad they came quickly, the springs that came with the car were cut from a previous owner and the shocks were blown the whole time. Last week while driving back from work, one of the springs fell sideways. Felt like I was in a vintage roller coaster rather than a Datsun... :frantics:

Should be installed by this weekend, I will update some photos with the new height. I will start at 2" inches lower than factory specs and work from there. I will have to measure the lowering blocks on the leaf springs to see if I should go 3" or not to match...

Can you explain the techno toy setup better? Is it direct bolt in or do you have to modify your front suspension and the struts to get their product to work? I too have a set of cut springs on my 1200 ute by a previous owner and only thing keeping them from falling out are zip ties. Over a bump my sway bar is also hitting the body and getting damaged. Remedy needed. Is this the answer?

These are "ready to bolt on". I will let you know how it really goes when I try.

Saw good reviews on the 510 version from T3.

Here is a link of the 510 set up with shortened struts, which I'm glad I got versus just replacing the springs and shocks. I would have blown my new shocks if I hadn't. When I called, I had to ask if they made a 1200 version of the this package. I believe if they listed more we would buy more! Let them know we want 1200 parts!!

So the "Ready to bolt on" would have been true if I had purchased the replacement mount that they offer.  Otherwise I will need to drill out the factory mount to slide the new Koni shock though the top.

Also in observing the factory Strut Mount, the original Upper Strut Bearing looks shot...   I seeeeearched everywhere for a replacement online so I can quickly order.  I couldn't find one without purchasing a kit that comes with a entire new mount.  So I am wondering if there is an alternate part # so I can easily replace from another Nissan Strut Mount?  Maybe from the Pulsar 83-90?

KYB offers one for the Pulsar that looks like it, but I would have to order it and I don't want to waste anymore more time if it's not it.

T3 offers a Camber Plate that comes with the Bearing but they're not open on the weekends and I always seem to run into my problems on Friday nights....   :poop:

OK, time to cause trouble...if you type in the part# below into:nissanpartszone.com, it will come up as belong in a 79-83 200sx

This is a must for a Datsun 1200 owner searching for parts!

Nissan Part Number: 54325-H1000 for Datsun 1200.

I bought a pair from the dealer- no longer available from the dealer?? and installed them in my 1200 coupe Smurf. The dealer showed they were the same as 200sx.

You can find plenty of strut bearing for 200sx, 79-83. Rockauto, ebay, local parts store.

Thank you! I just knew early Nissan parts looked too similar not to be interchangeable.

So I tried this..   I did not work for me. I bought the 200sx 1979 strut bearings and they're too big.  I might as well buy the T3 mounts and the upper hat system and stop wasting time...  I need to drive!!
