rcarnwath
Wondering if this is even worth buying without a title. The current owner WAS NOT the last person with a title, says he bought it from a guy that used it on a farm if I remember correctly...what do you guys think? Quote Link to comment

DanielC
I bought this 521 as a parts truck, and it is now my daily driver. It too had some problems with the title, but I had a good bill of sale. My plan was to use it as a parts truck. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/30606-my-ratsun-datsun-521/ Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
I'd do it. It looks like it was loved at one time. Quote Link to comment
dgi
You and the truck are in NC, correct? Get a Bill of Sale. Try to get info on the most recent title holder and with luck you can contact him and ask him to get a "lost title" and sign it over to you. Not likely to happen though. If that doesn't work.... then you have to go the "bond" method. Not too difficult, but a bit time consuming and will cost you approximately $125 for the insurance bond, approximately $140 for tags and taxes. Visit your NC License and Theft Division of the NC Dept of Transportation and pick up the proper application (an office in each county usually located with the driver's license examining station).. You must do this in the county where you and the truck live. Call first to determine the time an agent is in the office, usually in the early morning. An agent will schedule a time to visit you and the truck to verify the VIN tags and appropriate numbers on the truck and take a couple of pictures. Then you return to the office with the insurance bond and completed paper work. Be sure to complete it with your full name and then get the insurance bond in your full name. If the paperwork is in order, the agent will contact Raleigh for a quick verification that the VIN doesn't show stolen. If everything appears OK, you pay your tag and tax fees and will be give a paper 30-day tag. Raleigh will mail you the actual tag. In a month or so, you will get a title issued in your name. That title will be covered/insured by the insurance bond for 3 years. At the end of the three years, the title will be considered clear. So, a hour or so twice, a bit of time with your insurance agent, a bit of $$$, and a lot of patience and you will have a title for the truck. You can probably have it running before the title arrives. 4 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
It will be worth saving if you don't have to pay much for it. If the owner wants $3,200 for it...... Quote Link to comment

DanielC
The VIN on a PL -521 is in three places that I know of. There is one on the frame, close to the starter. Close up picture. Farther out. And this is where, with the cab on the frame. There is one on the drivers side door post, on an aluminium plate. There is another on the cowl, under the hood, by the hood strut.
