I have seen parts, but not the whole thing, much less a flying one! I'd like to hear what the engines sounded like. A B25 w/Wrights idling is pure manna, that rough triple beat Ra-Ki-Ta I could listen to all day long. Engines not reliable especially on B17 which could fly on less than 2 good engines. The B24 on the other hand could barely fly with 3 good engines and P&W made their name, Dependable Engines. Interesting how both planes had just what was needed engine wise. BTW, the P&W engines are boring, they purr like kittens - no lope at all. The Bristol Centaurus in the Sea Fury w/5-bladed prop is just plain class. Can't remember what they sounded like. The B25 Wrights idling is at the top of the sound list. I have a binaural recording of a B25 start recorded from the co-pilots chair. I loved to turn friends on to it with headphones. I'd watch their faces. The first think you hear (haven't heard tape in at least 30 years and memory is garbage) is maybe the APU spinning up. Then I think the starter motor... and when that first cough happens if would be smiles ear to ear. It's a shame binaural recordings never went far. Sennheiser actually has a human head microphone to make them. 3 Quote Link to comment
