Stinky
Can you help me identify this plane that I saw....I saw it over Parker, AZ flying low (relatively) and it looked like a C-17, BUT I think that it had propellers. I didn't hear it as my windows were up. I looked at Wiki, under current US planes and didn't see anything that fit the description. Is there such a plane? 1 Quote Link to comment

J-Luis
Could this have been it? C-27J Spartan cargo plane. It's not as big as a C-17 or C-5, but it has propellers. Or maybe a C-130 Hercules. Spartans are on their way to San Diego for the US Forest Service to use. 1 Quote Link to comment

Stinky
Twas definitly not a C-130 I think what I saw had a high tail, just like a C17. I wonder if I put props where there were none...(My eyes playing tricks). Oh well, one of life's great mysteries goes unsolved. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
J-Luis
LOL! I've been there. Once, I was driving out of Big Bend National Park (around 2001), and what I thought may have been a B-1 Lancer crossed in front of me. It was so low it looked like it came out of the ground. So close I could have thrown a grapefruit at it and hit it. It was gone before I could even consider pulling over. One of my kids caught the dark flash across the windshield, and he corroborated that it was long, thin, and loud. It was heading east toward Laughlin AFB or Randolph AFB. Today, my son lives near Cape Canaveral and Patrick Space Force Base. 1 Quote Link to comment

J-Luis
Wow! This is so cool! It was a mock-up Vulcan for the 1965 Thunderball film, but awesome info! Thanks. 2 Quote Link to comment
J-Luis
There are some great pictures online, but I have not seen a hanging display. 1 Quote Link to comment
Cardinal Grammeter
Found these, various airplane mishaps and some successes. It's possible no one died in these. (the pic below is not in the video.) 2 Quote Link to comment

Three stories: 1) Nuclear powered design, flew with lead bulkhead and mock reactor. What if it crashed? "Those areas would be uninhabitable." 2) Felt a shudder, went back to base, landed, discovered tail fell off. 3) I swear I was at an aviation museum and they had one hanging from the ceiling of the hanger. I remember spending a summer at NASA Lewis curing grad school and Bob Kielb told me about it. I believe it was the AF Museum. I saw it. I swear. Then returned years later and they claimed it never happened. Still haunts me to this day. 2 Quote Link to comment
