J-Luis
Sad story regarding the Boeing B-314 Honolulu Clipper. Engine trouble forced a landing and it was damaged during recovery. It was then sunk by the ship's 20 mm gun. 1 Quote Link to comment

J-Luis
Wings and Waves is an indoor waterpark located in McMinnville, Oregon. More importantly, the building next to it is an awesome museum: https://www.evergreenmuseum.org/. There is a MiG-29 sitting in the front lawn and a T-34 tank in the back... and lots more. 4 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
The Spruce Goose is parked in the building next door and an SR-71 in the building next to that one. Impressive place. Highly recommend. 🙂 5 Quote Link to comment
J-Luis
Wow, I didn't see an SR-71 on my first trip... but it was so long ago the waterpark had not been built. On my last visit around 2015, I got to Evergreen right after it closed for the day. There were lots of static displays on the outside. I thought the MiG-29 was a movie prop, but as you walk up to it, it's real. I always wondered how it got there... Wikipedia may have the answer... Under an agreement finalized on 10 October 1997, the United States acquired 14 MiG 29Cs, described by U.S. officials as wired to permit delivery of nuclear weapons. Also, the United States purchased six MiG 29As, one MiG 29B, 500 air-to-air missiles and all the spare parts and diagnostic equipment present at the Moldovan Air Base where the aircraft were stationed. In return, Moldova received around $40,000,000, humanitarian assistance and non-lethal excess defense articles, such as trucks.[10] The purchase was not without its opponents in Moldova, and the then acting defense minister, Valeriu Pasat would later be charged for illegally selling the aircraft to the USA.[11] All of those MiG-29s were transported from Moldova to the National Air Intelligence Center (NAIC) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio in C-17 transport planes over a period of two weeks.[12] 6 Quote Link to comment
ShutterMeShort
I have family in McMinnville. My truck lived there for years before I took it over. My grandfather is a WW2 vet and was a docent at Evergreen for several years. It's a pretty incredible place! 4 Quote Link to comment
angliagt
When I stopped there years ago,the Spruce Goose was outside of the old building across the road.It was covered in dust from the farm - fields that surrounding it. I saw it when it was in Long Beach,& it looked completely different. 4 1 Quote Link to comment
Mattndew76
We have a family season pass to Evergreen its one of my favorite trips every year. The water park is good place in the middle of the week when you and a few other families are attending. 4 Quote Link to comment
