Racer X 69
Wait that picture looks like it was taken from the parking lot at work. It's been like five years since we last built an air force one livery plane. How old is that picture? I made that photo on July 26, 2007, from the second shift parking lot on the West side of the factory (I was not employed at Boeing at that time). The government admits that 2 VC-25 747 aircraft were built. Those 2 airplanes were built between 1986 and 1990. That particular VC-25 was supposedly at the factory for some 'warranty' work, or some kind of rework that could not be carried out anywhere else. I suspect that here are more than just the 2 VC-25's. The reason is that from 2009 to 2015 I drove a truck, pulling flatbed trailers, for a carrier in Arlington that is the primary contractor for Boeing, and I moved many loads of parts for those airplanes. Maintenance is performed at McConnell AFB in Wichita and Offutt AFB near Omaha. Among other things, I hauled engines, thrust reversers, wing parts and landing gear in and out of both facilities to the contractors that rebuild them in Texas and Arkansas. I also moved a load of tires from the Michelin tire factory in North Carolina to Andrews AFB near Washington DC. On one occasion I saw two VC-25 aircraft partially disassembled at Offutt and McConnell, then a few days later delivered tires to Andrews, where I saw the VC-25 standing at the ready for the president as Air Force One. And iin addition to the one getting repairs, there was a fully operational VC-25 standing ready in a hangar at Offutt. My math isn't the greatest, but that adds up to 4 aircraft. They would not allow me to use a camera at Offutt, McConnell or Andrews, and at the time I never even thought to make a quick note of the tail numbers, so who knows, I may have been dreaming.
