But no, this plane was on display as a war memorial in Provo, Utah for some time and then it was towed to a rail road yard where it sat derelict for some time. There was an attempt to convert it to an early model Corsair, notice the birdcage canopy, and apparently it was not finished until later, after it was sold off. Oddly, it ended up in Brazil and is now displayed in a museum down there. 1 Quote Link to comment

Almost all American combat aircraft during WWII got fitted with them just in case they had to be launched from makeshift snow bases. But as the tide turned in our favor they concept for fighters was abandoned. Transport aircraft did use them. The Soviets did try the ski concept on the P-39 Cobra, but also abandoned the concept 2 Quote Link to comment
