Haven't had time to work on it for a while but picked up a set of Corrado / Passat winter wheels 15x6 35ET

For this look

Would be nice to find someone local that can move the centers for a lower ET

After relocating the front crossmember I wanted to have the engine mounted to the chassis instead of on the crossmember to allow for easy crossmember removal if more modifications are needed or dropping the oil pan etc.

Started with factory engine brackets and a set of new Jeep Wrangler rear upper control arms and 1/8 steel for the chassis bracket

Wanted to come up with a trans mount that tucked up high and let the exhaust be tucked up too. Modified the factory trans bracket to except a Volvo engine mount that tucked off to the side

Built this weird looking crossmember to tuck up out of the way.

Ruler is up against the sub frame to show how tucked everything is

I widened the trans tunnel down the exhaust side so with the trans mount and crossmember up out of the way there is lots of room for the exhaust above the scrub line

I have really struggled with being able to see what I'm doing when welding and end up welding all over the place leaving behind what looks like lava flow. After finishing up and cleaning the helmet lens I noticed the inside lens looked like it was delaminating. Looking closer I realized there was a milky plastic protective layer over the lens that you are supposed to remove. Captain Asshat Frabrication at your service, Ha

Been working on moving my brake booster closer the fire wall. Here is what the stock set up looks like.

post-1760-13667619992721_zps8hhiuyaq.jpg

The booster sits right next to the strut tower that doesn't stick out much, looks like this

blogentry-46815-0-97794500-14197444_zps4

I moved my strut towers in two inches and will need the booster moved back to tuck in behind

Here is a stock set up

med_gallery_34271_19_84356_zpswvzi701c.j[/

Under side of the bracket shows the rocker pivot linkage that is above where the steering column comes through the fire wall

IMG_8573.jpg

Here is the bracket after I shortened it up as much as I could without the rocker pivot linkage hitting the steering column. I actually had to move it up 3" to get it to move back 3" and over 1.25

Ordered a piece of  2" bends to get started on the exhaust

91013874_L_zpszxo9eehq.jpg

Didn't like how the angle the exhaust had to come from made for a kink where it comes off the collector so cut out the kink and opened up the transition from the collector to the 2" pipe

IMG_20150822_194924246_zpspzqmpv53.jpg

Used some thick cardboard tube to mock up the bends I needed

IMG_20150823_114423061_zpsrtlyhciv.jpg

Shape of the transmission makes for crossing under the transmission a better path than running down the same side

[/url]

IMG_20150823_122519791_zpsofv4ypbr.jpg

Crossing under the transmission seemed like death for a lowered car but with the raised front crossmember and engine I was still above the scrub line of the chassis so if no offroading I should be good

I showed the shortened booster mount but still had a lot of work to do to connect it to the floor mounted pedals.

The stock pedal box has a bracket welded to the back of it that attached to the booster mount so the firewall doesn't flex.

PedalBoxFront_zpsm7bmcmku.jpg

Having that brace / bracket welded to the pedal box requires dropping the pedal box to remove the booster or getting to any of the linkage so I built an removable brace.

Stock vs now

Finally back together

I love it. I've been wanting to play with a set of steelies like this for a while, just haven't gotten to it. Have you thought about banding them, make a wider rim?

The et5 looks great, but filling them would be a joke.

I'm just playing with these pictures. No plans to widen yet. Very little room to work with

Those are pretty. I understand not wanting to flare, but if you were to consider it, I like the look of this guy's car.

That's a great build. I love the flared look but not going to cut my fenders, at least for now

This car was last tabbed in 91 so I wasn't looking forward to draining the gas tank and looking inside but I lucked out. PO of the last six years said he was going to try and start it but never did (he had another 2002 he was working on so this was bought as a non-runner and just sat waiting it's turn) but he must have drained the tank and added some fresh at some point. he half way changed the water pump so maybe he was going to try and start. I drained 6 gallons of stinky stuff to find a nice clean tank. I filtered three of the six gallons into my daily with another ten fresh and made it to work fine. Will add the other three gallons of old stuff next.

Not knowing if I will be able to clear the stock hood with the raised front cross member and I picked up a junk Triumph TR4 hood for the tear dropped shaped bulge.

Looking for a second 2002 hood too so I don't have to cut the original one.

So will those tires be able to handle the power of the chevy V8 your installing ??

I know it might be a "old guy" thing but i like the look of rubber under the car.. Not a real fan of big rim , G-string tire look myself......... Or is it tyre because it's European?

I'll have traction control sensors hooked the ICU and a boost controller connected to the PB&J unit and those are controlled by the BUTT Dyno. Oh, and it's an Oldsmobile not Chevy engine. Oldsmobile is lighter that a big block Chevy.

I think it's a nostalgia thing. I'm liking a tire sidewall will a little bulge in it on the older stuff & it drives so much nicer too

Moving my rear control arm mounts in and up and since my neighbor still hasn't returned my laser guided CNC suspension printer I mocked everything up old school. Rather than box and gusset these mounts I may find another crossmember and cut the side arms with the mounts attached off and position the whole donor section on top of the existing crossmember. Will need to add a brace so the crossmember isn't twisting under load.
