dhp123166
I listen to alot of mainstream radio. I don't know why. There's a ton of pap but some songs really top out on the suckometer. I would say my nominee for worst song in recent memory is "Happy" by Pharell Williams. When I first heard it I thought for the first 10 seconds, wow, this sounds like old r&b; cool! But then it just goes nowhere, just the constant repetition of "happy-happy-happy" and that guy repeating some line about " a room without a roof". After the hearing it for the fiftieth time it feels like some form of torture or mind control developed by the North Koreans! Katy Perry comes in second with "Dark Horse". What's your worst song lately? Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
90% of current radio sucks. I've turned to listening to country music for the last few months... it's a lot less annoying. 1 Quote Link to comment
smoke
The Gilligan's island theme. But....about the 'happy' song. It sounded very familiar to me the first time I heard it...and this is why. 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It just 'blows my mind' the level of crap that's out there and how much of it people listen to and think is great. I blame this on the easy access by anyone to record themselves taking a shit and calling it music. Generally in the past, (other than Payola) artists had to a/ be good or b/ be innovative or c/ have something the listening public wanted to hear. It was hard to get a recording label contract with all the other really good competition out there and only the dream rose to the top. By the end of today I could probably find someone who could produce a 'music video' for me and put it on a DVD.... who couldn't??? Pretty much any idiot can and this is why we have this uninspired mediocrity on the radio and TV. Yes, there are a few reasonably good songs as there always will be but they are buried in the ground noise. Which brings me to the listener. People have bad taste in rim choices for their cars so why wouldn't this extend to their listening habits? Face it, if a lie is repeated over and over and over enough, you will believe it eventually. Stop listening to shit 24/7 while working or at home. It's everywhere. Listen more selectively and turn the shit down or off. Don't let your friends do it either. 1 Quote Link to comment
toylet
This is one of the worst ever 2 Quote Link to comment
smoke
I think the problem you're referring to is not really 'bad' taste' per se, but rather just void of it. Many people don't know what in the fuck they really like, they need to be told by someone cool what they like. Once all the cool kids do it, it spreads to the sheep who just follow along. You really see this in custom bikes and cars. One guy who people know of will do something a bit out of the ordinary and innovative (even if it's ugly) and all of a sudden, it spreads like wildfire. Many people do not build something THEY like, they build something they think other people will like without giving it anymore thought than that. 3 Quote Link to comment
john510
You should change that to "Worst songs in recent memory" there are plenty right now Quote Link to comment

hobospyder
Europeans... but why? is there any benefit to them or just "hey i don't want my hi-beams white.... let's paint them yellow"? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Fog lights are yellow as it has less glare but the lens on the fog light is what truly makes it a fog light. The pattern is very wide but very thin top to bottom. This avoids the light splashing back at you... think of the Star Trek effect when you switch on high beams in a snow storm. Painting high beams yellow does not make them a fog lights nor does it make them better to see with. Any coloring on the lens reduces light needed to see with. Go ahead, but I won't be doing it. If you want them, get the Mercedes amber lamps. 1 Quote Link to comment

I think you're just far enough removed from what's popular now that you can see it. They've been recording crap and selling it as long as there's been recording devices. I'm sure you fell into the same pop trap as a young teenager. I know I did. When you look back now and think of bands you liked then, you only remember the "good" ones. You probably forgot about that repetitive talentless one hit oneder that you liked for a week before it got over played and you moved on. The generation before you would have said the same about your favorite records. Fads happen to us all. 1 Quote Link to comment
RATDAT3
Smoke is right--90% of the people are sheep....they have been putting meaningless drivel on the radio for decades---and now they are called classics....I listen to internet radio or mp3's---rarely the local stuff. But, the song I hate is "Brave".....its on commercials and shit. Mike is right too...anyone with a computer and the program can make music and put it on the net....Look at Justin B--Youtube made him a star--I assume he was already a douche. I listen to Metal/rock/proggressive/jazz/country/ and I have my 8 year old on board with good tunes--my wife listens to the drivel.....My band plays Metal---cross between old school Maiden and Megadeth with some hair metal in there too.... datzenmike
Raph, you are correct. But today there is just more crap because it's easier to produce. Does anyone not know at least several acquaintances that have produced their own CD??? . Quote Link to comment
hobospyder
i actually have no past or present acquaintances to make a cd. a couple have been in bands but they sputtered out before getting any gigs or making a cd one might've thrown together a cassette though. Quote Link to comment
