i spent about 4 hours cleaning up this trans, trying to get it all back to bare aluminum so i can put down some solid coats of primer then some black engine paint.  I think i will paint the rear shifter aluminum or silver.

First thing to do was pull the shift lever and cover the seals from water.

shifter bushings are toast, was going to replace them regardless though...

While waiting for that i took the shift fork and shift lever to the sandblaster for a quick clean.  Shifter then went to the grind with the wire wheel for a nice polish  :w00t:

Let dry in the sun and then hit with a wire brush to knock loose stuff off then hit it with the power drill and wire wheel until i couldnt take it anymore  :baby:

Turned out great, still could use a little more love before i throw paint at it

Went ahead and ordered the following parts this morning to get this trans rebuilt and ready to put in my 510,

  • shifter pin and bushings
  • vent tube
  • front and rear seals
  • clutch fork boot
  • shift lever dust boot

I still need to order a clutch kit, get my flywheel resurfaced and have my driveshaft shortened......
